And let’s touch on this. When you’re born and raised in a country that’s primary sport is called “football” and dominates school athletics and television networks… you call the sport what you were raised to call it.
So soccer, futbol, futebol, calcio, fuBball, association football.. WHATEVER YOU CALL IT, you can have an opinion here. ⚽️
For what it's worth, FIFA lifted Cristiano Ronaldo's three match suspension for violent conduct during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Instead, he served a one game suspension and two games got deferred for a year.
Same thing happens here for Balogun. He will serve his suspension somewhere down the line.
#USMNT
FIFA suspending Balogun's red card so he can play for the USMNT tomorrow is the kind of FIFA corruption that used to only happen for the rest of the soccer world.
The USA has finally made it to the big leagues.
“Under FIFA‘s own protocols, the play should not have been flagged to Brazilian referee Raphael Claus by the video assistant, who ask Claus to review the play on the monitor following a slow-motion replay of the incident. Balogun was not even cautioned by Claus on the field.”
BREAKING @TheAthleticFC
Folarin Balogun will be available to play the USMNT’s round of 16 match against Belgium with his one-game red-card ban suspended. Extraordinary development.

I was most struck by what Balogun said about his reaction to the red card.
“There are lots of people we’re inspiring, boys and girls watching, you have to show them the right way to handle things,” Balogun said. “Even when you think it’s unjust.”

Still a ways to go, but this World Cup experience has been tremendous!
It has really brought so many fans of the sport from so many different countries together. Awesome stuff! ⚽️

FIFA confirms: Folarin Balogun’s suspension is just one game.
FIFA won’t be adding more games to the red card. If the U.S. advances to quarterfinal, Balogun will be back.
Tall said again that the goal this summer window is to “freshen” the roster. He said #Crew96 is excited about the new signings (including Andre Gomes and Andres Herrera returning) but “we are not done.”
Just a reminder. If you want to continue to ride the soccer revolution in THIS country, you have plenty of options. Do not listen to strangers on the Internet. Go experience it for yourself IN PERSON. @USMNT@USWNT@MLS@USLLeagueOne@USLChampionship@USL_HQ@Concacaf@NWSL
