You know how PepsiCo lowered the price of Lays products after RFK Jr. decided you can't use SNAP to buy them? The prices weren't high because it just costs so much to slice up and fry a potato. It was because they didn't care whether or not you could afford it because the people eating them were those getting it paid for by your tax dollars. When that was no longer a viable business model, they had to start pricing competitively again. You know, the way a free market is supposed to work.

The same logic applies to healthcare and universities. These corporations get their money from the government via people who are subsidized by the government. That's why college tuition has increased at three times the rate of inflation since the 1970s, and prescription drugs somehow cost less when you don't use insurance to pay for them (even private insurers get money from the government).

If you've ever wondered why TVs are among the only things that have gotten cheaper over the past ten years, that's why. The government doesn't buy TVs for people, so TV manufacturers actually have to care if consumers can afford them and must compete with each other on price.

So what will happen when everyone loses their jobs to AI and no one has any money? Don't worry, Big Daddy Government will give them your tax dollars. And when those run out, they'll just print money and devalue what little you still have. But as far as they're concerned, that's your problem.

We have things here. Genetic therapies. Tailored viruses that attack tumor cells. Drugs that highlight cancers for your immune system, drag them kicking and screaming into the spotlight to be killed.

I won't tell you about her exact course of treatment, because that's none of your goddamned business, but I will tell you that it cost American drug companies and medical researchers a fortune to discover.

A fortune that your nation cannot afford because you chose socialism instead of progress. And socialism, however fine-sounding in theory, simply does not work.

Were she and I British, living in Britain, relying on the National Health Service, I would be a widower now.

Did saving her cost a ruinous amount of money?

Yes. This technology was expensive to create, and the people who did so deserve to pay their mortgages and feed their kids. So do the oncologists and surgeons.

Many of the men who cared for her were old men, experienced men, long past retirement age, still working because when your profession is clawing souls back from the void, sitting on a beach with a pina colada instead just doesn't hit the same.

They deserve every cent.

Did saving her cost a ruinous amount of money?

Yes.

Did I pay it?

No.

Because believe it or not, when things are ruinously expensive, but vitally necessary, we here in America come up with ways to deal with that.

Ways that don't involve creating a big pot of money and entrusting it to corrupt slimeballs.

We have insurance. And sometimes insurance isn't cheap, but the bite it takes is a hell of a lot less of what we have than the tax man takes from you.

And insurance companies sometimes have to make hard decisions about which spending choices will save the most people. I know about this in detail, because that is my wife's profession. She creates the mathematical models that pay for all this stuff.

The insurance that saved her is the exact same plan that she provides to others.

And at the end of an awful year and a half of treatment, awful because cancer medicines make you far sicker than the cancer itself...

We were left whole.

Battered and wounded in spirit, but financially whole, at least.

The only loss we took was the blow to my career as a novelist, because it turns out you can't write stories while your wife is dying, and you don't automatically recover that ability afterwards. Not right away.

I wondered every day if she was going to live or die. I wondered every day what the hell I was going to with myself without her.

But I never wondered, not for a moment, how the hell we were going to pay for all this.

Your government doesn't solve the problem. It is the problem.

This post, below, in the first picture, is yet another example of "fan baiting" (or just fan-blaming) - it's a strategy now honed and perfected for the modern era and executed in decentralized fashion via social media. It's a way to blame fans and critics for studios, actors, and marketers for making a movie that suck ass.

Let me tell you about a movie that came out in 2022 - during the pandemic era no less, called "Everything Everywhere all at Once."

While not a superhero film per se, it featured a strong female (and Chinese American) lead who travelled through time, fought and kicked ass with martial arts action, and was heroic.

It is a science fiction, action, and adventure film. It was kinetic, inventive, & I personally greatly enjoyed it. It featured a female led cast and protagonist, the Mom who was the lead was a business owner and had a lesbian daughter who also was the major supporting character (excellent character development).

Despite it being released during the pandemic era of 2022, it nearly 6x'd its modest production budget of 20 million and is one of the most profitable independent films of the modern era.

Rotten Tomatoes has it at 95% average rating amongst viewers, and critics universally loved it.

Supergirl is a shltty movie.

Practically all modern Leftists think "Democracy" just means "vooting" and that the more vooting you do, the more democratic a system is.

But democracy has to mean more than just casting a ballot. You have to first answer the question of what these ballots are being cast for, and who gets to cast one?

Imagine if ancient Athens bought into all the modern Progressive libtard arguments about how "no human is illegal" and decided to grant universal suffrage to every resident of the Persian Empire.

The Persians would have conquered all of Greece without a single battle ever being fought. Why would they need to invade at all? They could have just elected Xerxes as the new Archon of Athens and subjugated the city without a struggle, all while claiming they were "defending democracy".

So, unless you want a system where democracy grants the masses the ability to dissolve itself, you have to draw hard boundaries between who is permitted to cast a ballot and who isn't.

But Leftists are unwilling to draw any distinctions at all between the in-group and the out-group, aside from declaring the "far Right" to be the out-group.

The Progressive is just going to inevitably respond with "Yeah, duh. We don't want Nazis, Fascists, and racists running our society. They're the outgroup. They shouldn't get a say. It's called the paradox of tolerance, chud. We want to tolerate immigrants and refugees and asylum seekers, and we don't want to tolerate racist scum like you."

But the moment they give this response (and they always will), they're just proving my point about how democracy must be more than just vooting. It HAS to draw a hard distinction between who is in and who is out.

Progressives might buy their own propaganda about how they're really just making a universal moral distinction, but would a monarchist or a Catholic integralist define enemies the same way? How about an Islamist or Confucianist? Would the ancient Athenians or Persians have thought about it this way? Would even the Founding Fathers have thought of this way 250 years ago?

Obviously not.

Which means the distinction Progressives are drawing isn't actually universalist at all. It's political. It always has been political.

There is no universalist political system, and every attempt to moralize about creating one is just a thinly veiled attempt to conceal one's own friend/enemy distinction under the guise of "just being a good heckerino person".

It's all fake. When these people say that no human is illegal and that they'd rather trade their "fascist" neighbor for an asylum seeker from Sudan, they're revealing that Progressivism isn't actually trying to expand some utopian vision of universal democracy at all.
