My Saskatchewan NDP colleagues and I were honoured to be hosted by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress of Saskatchewan this morning.

Russia started the war with an illegal invasion. Ukraine will win it.

We talked this morning about the incredible work UCC does and its long history in our province.

We also reinforced the Saskatchewan NDP’s commitment to open our province to Ukrainian refugees if Trump follows through on a deeply harmful plan to deport them from the United States.

Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Jobs & Economy @AleanaYoung during a news conference today demanding the Bunge-Viterra merger be stopped:

“We are one week from a devastating trade war with the United States. Shrugging our shoulders and letting an American-based company steamroll our economy is stupid.”

I couldn’t agree with Aleana more.

The Bunge-Viterra merger will cost Saskatchewan producers $770 million annually.

I am also deeply concerned the Premier Scott Moe has refused to publicly oppose the merger. Asked by SaskToday on Jan. 31 about the merger, Moe said, “No. I wouldn't say oppose[d]. I would say their concerns have been raised, and Bunge is very actively working towards addressing those concerns…”

The Saskatchewan NDP is demanding Scott Moe withdraw his comments and formally oppose the job-killing Bunge-Viterra merger.

It’s time for a government focused on our economy, on protecting jobs and securing our economic future.

We need pipelines to tidewater, not to Trump.

Talking about sending our high-quality Canadian oil to the US while President Trump continues to threaten tariffs and our very sovereignty every day is not leadership.

Donald Trump made it clear today that devastating, 25 per cent tariffs are coming next week.

I am glad the Premier is in Washington today. That’s one important piece of the work that needs to proceed.

But meetings alone aren’t enough. We need a plan.

We should be in the Saskatchewan Legislature right now developing that plan — one to protect jobs, diversify the economy and expand market access and, yes, to retaliate with our own measures.

I am continuing to call for an emergency session. We don’t want a trade war, but we must show strength. We must make it clear these tariffs will hurt jobs and drive up the cost of living on both sides of the border.

The Saskatchewan NDP is here and ready to help deliver a plan to fight these tariffs and focus on our economic future in such uncertain times.

Today, we learned that Scott Moe and the Sask. Party have rejected calls for an emergency sitting of the Saskatchewan Legislature to develop both a proper response to the Trump tariffs threat and a plan to secure our economic future.

We know the tariffs threatened by Trump will be devastating and kill jobs. Still, the Sask. Party can’t be bothered to show up for work.

We see no plan to fight these tariffs, diversify Saskatchewan’s economy and deliver jobs and good wages.

The Saskatchewan NDP is here. We’re putting forward ideas each and every day and are focused on our future. My message to Scott Moe and the Sask. Party is this — get back to work.

The Sask party uses underhanded tactics to win, then avoids showing up to work.
The time has come for Premier Moe and the Sask Party to recall the legislature so that Saskatchewan can form a plan to defend ourselves from these economic attacks.

Under the Sask. Party’s plan, the Legislature will not reopen until March 19 — and we’re on track to see two rounds of job-killing tariffs before then.

We export $27 billion dollars' worth of products to the US every year and all face a 25 per cent tariff

By the time this House sits, Saskatchewan steel exports could be facing an even higher 50 per cent tariff.
This is a potential trade war and yet the guys on the other side of the House are missing in action.
The time to develop and debate a plan to address these job-killing, cost-hiking tariffs was weeks ago, not in a month from now after people are out of the job and everything at the checkout is even more expensive.

The Sask. Party is doing as little as possible when they should be working around the clock to protect our future.
