Representatives from the DRC and Rwanda, together with the United States, Qatar, Togo, and the African Union Commission, convened the sixth Joint Security Coordination Mechanism meeting at the U.S. Mission in Geneva, Switzerland.

The DRC and Rwanda agreed to advance two initiatives to strengthen monitoring and verification of implementation of the Washington Accords on the ground. The parties also agreed to hold a trilateral planning conference in October 2026, culminating in a revised Operations Order to guide their coordinated efforts.

🇺🇸🇹🇬🇧🇯 U.S. Embassy Lomé hosted the Freedom 250 Cross-Border Innovation Workshop at American Corner Kara in collaboration with @USEmbassyBenin , bringing together Togolese and Beninese technology and media leaders to explore U.S. AI tools and strengthen information integrity.
Through the American Spaces network, the workshop laid the groundwork for future commercial connections between Togolese technology entrepreneurs and U.S. technology companies. Greater familiarity with U.S. solutions can help create opportunities for U.S. companies to reach new customers and markets in Togo advancing innovation and strengthening U.S.-Togo economic engagement.

On August 11, U.S. Embassy Lomé diplomat Tim Glenn led a book discussion with 50 future primary teachers at Togo’s École Normale de Formation des Professeurs d’École (ENFPE) in Tabligbo, using books from the State Department’s Africa Regional Services (ARS) Nouveaux Horizons publishing program to strengthen English teaching skills. On July 30, the U.S. Embassy Lomé hosted a networking event for alumni of U.S. exchange programs, members of the Global Alumni Association of Togo, and participants from Space Forum Africa 2026 focused on building connections, sharing experiences, and fostering professional engagement.
The gathering highlighted the importance of innovation and technology while providing an opportunity for participants to exchange ideas, strengthen ties across different program cohorts, and celebrate the launch of the second edition of the alumni newspaper.

Last Friday, we welcomed eight new Peace Corps Volunteers who took the oath to begin two years of service in communities across Togo. During the ceremony, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Chahrazed Sioud administered the oath, drawing on her own experience as a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer to share the value and impact of service. Peace Corps Togo Country Director Amy Patanasinth encouraged the new Volunteers as they began their service journey and joined a community of Americans serving alongside Togolese communities.
After eight weeks of intensive training, the Volunteers will work alongside Togolese teachers to strengthen English education, joining other Peace Corps Volunteers already serving in health and agriculture.
Since 1962, more than 3,100 Americans have served as Peace Corps Volunteers in Togo, sharing skills, learning from their host communities, and supporting opportunities that benefit both countries. Their service reflects the enduring friendship between the United States and Togo.
