🚨 𝗪𝗘𝗟𝗙𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗕𝗘 𝗨𝗦𝗘𝗗 𝗧𝗢 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗖𝗘 𝗩𝗔𝗖𝗖𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗢𝗥 𝗧𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗔𝗪𝗔𝗬 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗩𝗔𝗖𝗬 🚨❌
Awaken India Movement strongly objects to the reported conditions in the Delhi Government’s Lakshmi Yojana, where women seeking financial assistance are required to ensure vaccination of their children, including HPV vaccination for girls, and also give consent for sharing their personal information with banks, partners and other stakeholders.
⚖️ The Supreme Court in Jacob Puliyel v. Union of India (2022) clearly stated:
👉 “Bodily integrity is protected under Article 21 of the Constitution of India and no individual can be forced to be vaccinated.”
How then can a welfare benefit of ₹2,500 per month be linked to the vaccination choices of a woman or her family? Financial assistance cannot be used as pressure to obtain consent for a medical intervention.
🔐 The privacy condition is equally alarming. Applicants are reportedly being asked to consent to sharing their personal information with banks, partners and other unspecified “stakeholders”. The Supreme Court in K.S. Puttaswamy v. Union of India has recognised the Right to Privacy as a fundamental right under Article 21.
Consent cannot become a blanket permission to share a person’s private data wherever required merely because she needs government financial assistance.
❗ A financially vulnerable woman should never be forced to choose between receiving welfare and protecting her bodily autonomy and personal privacy.
📢 Awaken India Movement calls upon the Delhi Government to immediately remove these conditions and ensure that welfare benefits are not linked to forced medical choices or surrender of personal data.
