It's national save your hearing day. This little girl in 1997 is hearing for the very first time after a cochlear implant. She was one of the youngest in Dallas to receive this at the time.

Hongtao Yu, Ph.D. was a researcher and HHMI Investigator in the Department of Pharmacology from 1999 to 2019. While at UTSW he held The Serena S. Simmons Distinguished Chair in Cancer Immunopharmacology.

Joel Elmquist, D.V.M., Ph.D. joined UTSW in 2006 and is Director of the Center for Hypothalamic Research and a professor. He is one of our three newly elected members of the National Academy of Sciences.
