@DougInRoc I’ve studied the arguments for Universalist theology, and I am not yet convinced. However, it is very attractive from a philosophical standpoint. Also, since I’ve changed my view on other theological topics, who knows?
@DougInRoc I heard somebody say once in response to the question “why doesn’t God rid the world of evil?“, “Because eventually He’d get to me, And I may not like how soon that is.”
@DougInRoc Well I’m not a universalist, but I believe that God is ultimately just and fair. I don’t know exactly what that looks like. I just trust that He is smarter than me, and has it all figured out. If there’s beer in heaven, and you like it, when we meet up, I’ll buy you one.
@DougInRoc And look, we’re going to see each other in heaven someday, as long as we both believe in and trust that Jesus died for our sins. And we’re gonna find out that we’re both probably wrong about a lot of stuff. I’m sorry for any perceived rudeness, that was not my intent.
@DougInRoc Why would I do that? You made a statement about not following somebody that has abhorrent theology (to you), I pointed out that you do that already, showing you that your standard is arbitrarily used. I’m sorry if you are bothered that I pointed out your inconsistency.
@DougInRoc So you are applying a different standard to Wallace, as you are to other people in your timeline? Why? Did you hit a “cap“ on opposing viewpoints? Do you dislike his other work too? If his theology of hell is so abhorrent, why would you follow anybody else that has the same view?
@DougInRoc Your exact words - “but his theology is abhorrent to me so I don't want him in my tl.” And then I point out that there are “theologians” that you follow in your timeline that have exactly the same theology as him. So, extrapolating as I did, is logical. How else to read that?
@DougInRoc Yeah, I prefer echo chambers in my timeline too. That way, I can ignore all opposing points of view, and get warm fuzzies every time I see that everybody agrees with me. However, I see several people that you follow that also believe the “torment“ thing. So is this a new rule?
@MrCornballer Read Sailhammers book, “Genesis Unbound“. His basic argument is that the creation narrative is only speaking of Eden, not of the entire planet. He doesn’t take a position on the age of the earth, because he says that the Bible doesn’t ask or answer that question. It’s intriguing.
