Four years ago, @SaraMiellet and I published a call for papers for two LSA panels on local migration law and governance...
The result is out as of today, OPEN ACCESS! 📖 It's an edited volume titled "Theorizing Local Migration Law and Governance"

Mayors recognize how the #ClimateCrisis disproportionately impacts migrants and displaced people. As new #GlobalCitiesFund grantees, 5 cities in #Africa will help people adapt in place or move from hazardous areas through ecologically sustainable projects: https://t.co/NRcu4egOBw
Day two of the @UUCoR conference brought great discussions with @ColleenThouez, @OctavidelaVarga, Lefteris Papagiannakis, @ThomasL44716301, Juan Carlos Triviño-Salazar, Agustí Fernandez de Losada, @petrahueck, Niels Tubbing, @ChristianeHeim1 & many more! Some takeaways ⬇️
A great first conference day of the @UUCoR project by @BarbaraOomen @TihomirSabchev @SaraMiellet@_Elif_Durmus@mogneba! And more to come tomorrow!
My main takeaways from today⬇️
It was SUCH a privilege to be able to gather this *incredible* group of people respresenting different stakeholders in the question of the proliferation of city networks, dangers of competition and the need for a more cooperative ecosystem of networks. To be continued!
“Inter-city networks: fruitful marketplace or competitive scramble for resources?” Today, our #GlobalCities Programme director, @AgustiFdeLosada, has participated in the @UUCoR “Beyond Cities of Refuge” conference #CitiesofRefuge2022
The highlight to finish: our large roundtable on inter-city networks in the field of migration and human rights, moderated by @_Elif_Durmus.
So much academic knowledge and practical experience on one stage (and a screen)!

Very happy to be at the "Beyond Cities of Refuge" conference in Middleburg. Ready to start with our roundtable “Inter-city networks: fruitful marketplace or competitive scramble for resources?”. Thank you @BarbaraOomen and @_Elif_Durmus for inviting me. #CitiesofRefuge2022@UUCoR
"City branding (for example as Human Rights City) is more than 'just talk', just symbolism, just discourse. By repeating a concept we are giving meaning and life to it, and you will never know where that life can go" says @SaraMiellet in Panel V, #CitiesofRefuge2022
In Panel V on "Symbolism, Vity Branding and the Long Afterlives of Refugee Solidarity Models", Karin Geuijen discusses how we can learn from environmental sustainability research in exploring sustainability of local migration governance practices.

Importance of community, city leadership, EU (and other) funding, diasporas and more discussed at
Roundtable I of #CitiesofRefuge2022 on community sponsorship for refugees with @petrahueck, Niels Tubbing, Antje Grotheer, @mogneba and @TihomirSabchev
"The leader takes control over the narrative in a crisis and makes sense & meaning to manage the situation. It is important to study leadership in a process-focussed way, and look at the actions of the leaders AND the leadership environment" - @TihomirSabchev
#CitiesofRefuge2022
"There is more to "the Local". Rural municipalities focus more on markers of integration rather than foundations of local citizenship. They also have a strong wish to deicde who get to stay." Says Miriam Haselbacher in an excellent presentation in #CitiesofRefuge2022 Panel IV.
And we are on Day 2 of #CitiesofRefuge2022 - the Final Conference of our project!
@juancarlos_triv says "city leadership is a combination of (1) personal leadership, (2) city vision, and (3)actions in Panel IV "If Mayors Ruled Migration"
What can #localgov do? What are their domestic competences-how does regulation shape their strategies? Thx fellow panelists Martha Davis, Delphine Burriez, Giovanni Boggero, commentator Bahram Ghazi, @BarbaraOomen + the engaged audience for an excellent panel!
