We are pleased to announce to you that the Uganda UniversitySurgical Society has organize a Surgical Skills Competition on 26th September 2026 at the Davies Lecture Theatre, Makerere University, College of Health Sciences.
The competition will bring together medical students affiliated with multiple Student Surgical Societies with an interest in surgery to demonstrate their knowledge, technical ability, teamwork, clinical judgement, and practical surgical skills in a competitive but educational environment.
The event is intended to bridge the gap between theoretical medical education and practical surgical training by providing students with an opportunity to develop and demonstrate essential surgical skills.
We anticipate participation from medical students affiliated with various student Surgical Societies from various institutions across Uganda, as well as engagement from surgical professionals, academic staff, and other stakeholders in healthcare.
As part of our commitment to making this event impactful and accessible to students, we are seeking financial and or in-kind sponsorship from your organization to share the commitment to medical education, healthcare development, innovation, and capacity building.
Your organization's support could contribute towards key aspects of the event
Yours faithfully,
OCHIENG JOSEPH

To my dear mentors at the Association of Surgeons of Uganda (ASOU) ,thank you for seeing potential in me, trusting me with opportunities, teaching me in the theatre, and allowing me to learn not only the science of surgery, but its soul.
To every surgeon who has poured into me: I carry a piece of your wisdom wherever I go.
You opened doors before I knew how to knock. You trusted me before I fully understood why. You poured into me without asking for anything in return.

Just In Today,,..
I was reminded that mentorship is a bridge between where you are and where you are destined to go.Sometimes, all I need is an opportunity to sit close enough to learn, ask, observe and dream bigger.
I am deeply grateful for every mentor who has opened a door, shared wisdom, offered encouragement,corrected me, challenged me&makes the journey feel possible,coming from a very poor background, raised by God’s Love& Grace.
May I never take these moments for granted. May I remain teachable. And may the knowledge and kindness poured into me one day become something I can pour into others.
Thank you so much my mentors @DKurigamba74326@KaggwaSaulMD@OkelloMichaelDr@KSaulpaul@vivian_akello@dennisokwir@AccessEndoscopy 🙏🩷

🚨 MEDICAL INTERNS REJECT REPORTING AMIDST DEADLINES FROM MoH❗️
Behind every medical intern is years of sacrifice, sleepless nights, examinations, financial struggles, and a dream to save lives.
A Willingness to Serve Should Never Be Met With Silence.
How do we ask young doctors to give everything to the health system while their own basic needs remain unanswered?
They simply want government to listen, honour its commitments, and meet their legitimate concerns over Welfare.
Medical interns deserve support. Medical interns deserve fairness. Medical interns deserve to be heard.
#PayAllMedicalInterns #MedicalInterns #Uganda
When the gates are closed on you, the doors re Slammed in ur face, windows swung violently to shut you out & the vents are barricaded, WHO SUFFERS?
THE GUY SHUTTING ALL AVENUES TO FRESH AIR WILL BE THE FIRST VICTIM.
Open Hon. @CHRISBARYOMUNS1 for @TheUMAofficial to dialogue
🚨 JUST IN, MEDICAL INTERNS INTENSIFY THEIR PROTEST,SAYING NO TO REPORTING❗️
Despite Deadlines proposed by ministry of health to report to their respective internship sites, medical interns have REMAINED UNITED. REMAINED FIRM&WE REMAINED RESOLUTE.
They are simply asking that the same country that prepared them to serve should recognize their work and facilitate fairly.
I think the problem is bigger than a deadline. It is about dignity. It is about justice. It is about the value&place on healthcare workers.
Interns want to report&save lives. But reporting without a clear commitment to facilitate medical interns is not a solution,it is perpetuating exploitation.
INTERNS ARE READY TO SERVE, BUT WE MUST ALSO BE VALUED.
No intimidation. No division. No surrender.
UNTIL EVERY MEDICAL INTERN IS FACILITATED, WE STAND UNITED.

🚨 THIS FRIDAY 21/08/2026| SUGES CME SERIES 2026 🔥
The Society of Uganda Gastrointestinal & Endoscopic Surgeons (SUGES) invites you to another exciting CPD-accredited CME session dedicated to advancing surgical knowledge and improving patient outcomes.
🎯 TOPIC: BILIARY ATRESIA :THE NEED FOR LT
Biliary atresia is a progressive, life-threatening condition in which early recognition, timely referral and appropriate surgical management can make the difference between life and loss of a future. This session will explore the critical role of Liver Transplantation (LT) in the management with biliary atresia.
Am confident the gallant UPDF are being deployed to GAZAwith some provision for transport, food, clothing and probably a little extra to send to their family.
Thank u @mkainerugaba for your visionary leadership. Please help us have medical interns deployed with allowances too.
Just In Today, A few things to highlight before parliamentary sitting tomorrow ❗️
Medical interns are not students. They are qualified Medical Doctors on probation, working under supervision as they complete the apprenticeship required before full licensure. Medical internship is not comparable to ordinary professional training,it is the bridge between graduation &independent practice.
We work full nights, long shifts, weekends and attending to emergencies,resuscitating critically ill patients, stabilising mass casualty victims and helping reduce preventable deaths in an already strained health system hence reducing mortality.
Uganda already faces a severe doctor shortage compared with the WHO-recommended benchmark of 1 doctor per 1,000 people. Interns are therefore not excess labour; we are part of the workforce keeping hospitals running.
If Government requires us to undertake this mandatory apprenticeship, then let it be humane and sustainable.
We ask for a UGX 4 million monthly allowance, secured through a signed contract before deployment, so every intern knows the terms under which they are expected to serve.
We are not asking for luxury.
We are asking for dignity, a fair contract and the means to survive while saving lives.
Tomorrow, we ask Parliament to stand with Uganda’s young Doctors.

Mzei will know the Truth, when he talk to us.
We need 3 sessions;
ONE, we will sit at your feet & listen to your time tested wisdom;
TWO, we'll present a few points;
THREE, we'll sit & listen to u again.
This'll be sooner than later, in JESUS' NAME.
@TheUMAofficial begs.
When thousands were hurting, one voice refused to go quiet.
Professor .Dr. Frank Asiimwe has demonstrated to us that true leadership is not measured by the position, but by the people you are willing to stand for.
To the interns who felt unheard, to the young doctors whose hopes were tested, and to a profession fighting to preserve its dignity,he chose to stand with us.
Thank you, Professor. Dr.Frank Asiimwe, for reminding us what leadership looks like when it truly matters.
The struggle continues,🙏💪
Stand for people. Stand for justice. Stand for the profession🩺
