@pinkfloyd Also the explanation is for people who don't understand. Stable Diffusion, by default, has already stolen images. The "training" he did, was a subset that gets mixed atop the theft, it doesn't negate it. Any use of stable diffusion is already the theft of others works. Period.
@pinkfloyd Saw the gorgeous hand animated submissions you picked over this generated AI slop. Whoever managed this competition should be fired immediately. Absolutely embarrassing for you, what a fucking disappointment.
@wizards_magic Someone is lying, either your artist to you, or you to yourself.
There is still time to come clean.
I work in this field. This is generative AI and it's painfully obvious.
Update: awful CivitAi dropped by OctoML. This is the power of good journalism! When reporters fearlessly hunt for the objective truth you get monumental change!
Great job from @404mediaco ! Please consider subscribing to this amazing news outlet!

So this is what we have to deal with as artists, we spend time and effort to create art, the particular piece that this guy stole and fed into Ai took me about a day and a half to complete, from rough sketch through to the final piece.
He has stolen this piece of art from my social media, that I use to publicise my business to feed my family. This is blatant theft of my artwork, by using Ai you are normalizing this, and the destruction of artists careers, not to mention any future artists.
I have not, and will never consent to someone taking my art to be 'recreated' by Ai algorithms.
#fuckAiart
I will never forget learning that a mom heard about the shooting, left work, drove over, argued with cops to go inside, got handcuffed, talked her way out of cuffs, hopped a fence, and rescued her 2 sons inside while cops stood doing aggressive crowd control on distraught parents
AI didn’t democratize art.
Artists did.
Free YouTube tutorials, sketch pages, advice blogs, works-in-progress, mentorship, AMAs, process videos. Sharing materials, stock references, resources, and technique. These are freely available to anyone who wants to learn.
Laws are slow and take time to pass. We can still fight for ethical AI. This is not a quick battle, but a long years worth of debating and challenging large corporations.
If things seem to be slowing down, they are not, this is still the beginning and big changes are coming.
If you plan on using AI for your art at least be forward about it and don't block people for asking.
One of the biggest red flags is the fence she's standing next to. The inconsistency of her costume design is also another big standout.
1/ Absolutely a must read to see what disgusting lengths people will go to excuse making $$$ on tech world’s latest hype cycle. Another brilliant report by @404mediaco on why CivitAi is one of the worst platforms online.
Also shame @OctoML for supporting and enabling this!
