Please take a moment to read about Enzo, a dog who has faced considerable hardship. Enzo arrived with us as a stray, having been found wandering near a canal. He was in a terrible state—severely underweight and wearing a prong collar so tight that it had started to embed itself into his skin.

When Enzo arrived at DRUE, it became immediately apparent that he was highly reactive—not only towards other dogs, but also towards cats, horses, and a range of livestock. His behaviour included redirecting his reactivity. Enzo was generally unwell upon arrival. A veterinary examination suggested a possible respiratory infection, likely caused by his exposure to the elements as a stray. To help Enzo regain his strength, we introduced him to a raw diet aimed at boosting his nutrition. Despite this, his failure to gain weight raised concerns. Medical tests showed that he had roundworm, which has now been treated.
Unfortunately, further scans and x-rays revealed that Enzo also suffers from some hip dysplasia, adding to his challenges.

Despite everything he has endured, Enzo remains an incredibly loving dog. We are fortunate to have a compassionate local family who welcome Enzo into their home each night, providing him with a safe and comfortable place to sleep. During the day, Enzo relaxes in our office, enjoying time on the sofa between his walks.

Enzo’s reactivity has shown improvement, but it will still need work. DRUE will cover all costs associated with his hip issues; this includes pain relief and supplements. Vets have advised that there is no need for surgery. We are seeking a foster/adoption for Enzo without other dogs or cats. He will require lead walking to help build up the muscles supporting his hips, and physiotherapy will be necessary—again, with all expenses covered by DRUE. Enzo is content being left alone for reasonable periods, making him suitable for someone who works, as long as he is not left for extended stretches. While this is a significant commitment, we hope someone will open their heart to him. According to veterinary advice regular, appropriate exercise is essential to strengthen his muscles.

From Enzo’s Foster Carer
Enzo is described as a gentle giant who is full of love. In the home, he is house trained, does not bark at visitors or people passing by, and patiently waits for instruction before eating his food. He is calm at night and in the mornings, showing that he has likely been well trained and loved before. Enzo enjoys cuddles and is content to relax quietly in the evenings while the family watches television. Although Enzo is reactive to animals, he would thrive in a home with a large, secure garden. He has always been gentle with the foster carer’s son and his friends, enjoying football and making a positive impression on visitors. The only reason he cannot stay with his foster family permanently is their small garden and the presence of neighbouring cats and dogs. Enzo asks for nothing but love, and this is no exaggeration. When staying over the weekend, he is calm and shows reduced reactivity, particularly since starting pain medication. He has been left alone for a few hours with no signs of separation anxiety or destructive behaviour. Whoever adopts this wonderful dog will be very lucky indeed.

8 year old recently neutered Musket has come to us due to a change in his family’s circumstances. He has been in the same home since he was a puppy and so is understandably very bewildered.

He is a friendly and affectionate boy when he gets to know you and is comfortable. He walks nicely on his lead and doesn’t react to anything out and about. He has walked through fields of sheep while with us and not batted an eyelid, so a very easy boy to take out on adventures. He is very well behaved in pubs and cafes and will sit nice and calmly.

Musket is cat friendly but wary of small children (he can sometimes bark at them) so he will only be re-homed with children over 14.

He is happy to play with other dogs but will need to be the only dog in the home. He spent some time in a lovely foster home but unfortunately got very possessive over a chew.

Musket will take a while to settle in a new home, which is understandable given the fact he has only known one family in his lifetime. A slow and patient approach will be rewarded as you see Musket settle and show you the fabulous boy he is.

He is clean in the house and will ask to go outside to the toilet. He also travels very well in the car.

Don’t be fooled by Musket’s age, he neither looks nor acts his age – he loves a really good long walk.

Enzo arrived with us this week. He came from the pound, where his time was up.

This lovely boy was found wandering alone and very underweight on a canal towpath. He was wearing a prong collar that was so tight it was embedded into his skin.

We have him now and he will know nothing but love going forward. More details will follow as we get to know him.

Hi, I’m Remi, a sweet 2-year-old girl who’s ready to find my perfect forever home. I’ve been through a bit, so I’m taking my time coming out of my shell, but with encouragement and reassurance, I’m starting to relax and show my true colors. New things might spook me at first, but I bounce back quickly—I’m tougher than I look!

What makes me happiest? Being right by your side! I love stretching out at your feet or curling up next to you for some quiet company. I already know basic commands, and I get excited about agility equipment—especially if there’s a yummy treat involved. Out on walks, I might let out a little bark if something catches me off guard, but I settle right down and trot along nicely with other dogs. I’ve met cattle, horses, and cats without any fuss, though I do get curious if something comes right at me. Overall, I’m a curious explorer who’s learning to trust the world.

I just need someone patient to help build my confidence—time and kindness are my best friends. No little kids for me, please; I’d do best with dog-savvy folks 12 and up. I’ve always been a solo act, but I could probably share my space with a chill male dog. If you’re looking for a loyal companion to shower with love and watch blossom, that’s me!

Hi I'm Koda, a 2-year-old girl who's all about the love and cuddles! I walk like a pro on a leash, no pulling or drama.

I sometimes bark at other dogs I meet, but not all of them—it's because I didn't get much socialisation growing up. With the right introductions, though, I think I'd love having some calm doggy pals to play with.

I don't guard my food or toys at all. I've lived with kids before, and while I adore them, I do best with older, dog-savvy ones from about 12 and up. The little ones were a bit overwhelming for me, so a home with bigger kids (or none at all) would be paw-fect.

Cats? Never met one, so I'm not sure about that. And I've always been a solo pup, but I could probably share my space with a chill, neutered male dog if we take it slow we're introduced properly.

Overall, I'm a sweet, wonderful girl who's ready to give my whole heart to the right family. I just need a little extra help with socializing to become the best version of myself—will you be the one to help me shine?

Hi, my name's Caesar, and I'm a super friendly guy who's looking for my forever home. My previous owners had some big changes in their life, so now I'm hanging out at the rescue, hoping to find someone special like you.

I'm the type of dog who loves everyone I meet—tail wags and happy greetings all around! I've hung out with kids around 7 and 10 years old before, but I haven't actually lived with any little ones, so I'd do best in a home with dog savvy kids 12 and up who know how to play nice.

Cats? Folks said I might not get along, but after a little test, I was totally fine! On my walks, I'm cool: no barking at cars, bikes, or passersby. I get along okay with other dogs too - though if a fellow male pup starts barking at me, I might just bark right back - hey, a dog's gotta stand his ground!

All in all, I'm a loving, loyal boy who's ready to be your best buddy.

Hi I'm Kensi, a 7-month-old Dobermann pup with a heart full of zoomies. I'm all about puppy energy - excited, always ready to play fetch or tug-of-war, but I haven't quite mastered the art of personal space yet. I might accidentally bowl you over in my enthusiasm.

I'm a smart cookie too—I already know my basic commands like sit, stay, and come (most of the time, anyway). But I'm still growing up, so I need a forever home where you'll keep building on that with some fun training sessions, clear boundaries, and a solid routine.

In my last place, I got a bit bored and turned into a chew monster on stuff I shouldn't have. But keep me busy with adventures, walks, and brain games, and I'll ditch those bad habits.

I'll blossom into the perfect sidekick with a little structure. When it comes to other critters, I'm chill around horses and cows. But cats get my chase instincts fired up, so I'd probably do best in a cat-free zone while I'm still in my giddy phase.

Out on walks, I start off like a rocket, but once I burn off that initial burst, I settle right in and stroll like a pro. I even walked out with my kennel buddy without any fuss, though I couldn't resist trying to start a playdate now and then. Who can blame me?

Overall, I'm a bundle of joy who'll keep you laughing all day long. I've got a teenage whine when I'm in a kennel, and I might plot a sneaky escape or two, but with your love and patience, I'll be the loyal, loving companion you've been dreaming of.

My name is Zena, and I’m a bubbly 14-month-old girl who’s just bursting with love and ready for my forever home. I’m the sweetest pup you’ll ever meet—I adore getting all the attention, snuggling up for cuddles, and chasing after my favorite toys. My previous owner got sick and couldn’t take care of me anymore, so here I am at the rescue, dreaming of a new family to call my own.

Out on walks? I stroll nicely on my leash without a fuss, ignoring all the distractions I’ve even walked side by side with the other dogs here. Off-leash play with them can make me a bit nervous sometimes, but I don’t bark or snap; I just trot right back to my human for some reassuring pets and comfort.

Hi, I’m Ronnie, a 5-year-old pup looking for my forever home! My old family loved me dearly, but their child’s allergies meant I had to move on—it broke their hearts, and mine too.

I’m a super sweet guy, wagging my tail for everyone I meet at the rescue. I’ve lived with kids before and got along great, but cats? Not my thing.
