On April 25, Dr. Peter H. Raven, an outstanding botanist, ecologist, and nature conservationist, passed away. He was a Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the US, a Foreign Member of the NAS of Ukraine, and an Honorary Member of UBS.

For the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, ‘Inscience’ public organisation together with @avrora_official launched a project inviting women scientists from all over Ukraine, working in various directions, to share their career paths and research.

Vice President of the Ukrainian Botanical Society, Doctor of Biological Sciences Anna Kuzemko, was invited to participate in the project. She spoke about her research on Velykyi Luh, which was formed on the site of the former Kakhovka Reservoir.

From October 23 to 25, a young scientists’ Conference ‘Advances in Botany and Ecology’ was held. This year, it took place in Kyiv and was organized by the Institute of Botany of the NAS of Ukraine, the National Botanical Garden of the NAS of Ukraine, and UBS.

During the Conference, the guests took a tour around the Botanical Garden. On the third day, the participants visited the Institute of Botany and had an excursion to the National Herbarium of Ukraine (KW). Further, they moved to Bila Tserkva to visit the ‘Olexandriya’ Arboretum.

The articles of the new issue are dedicated to 100-anniversary of UBS, the role of the Ukrainian botanists in founding the first protected areas in Ukraine, the contribution of the Ukrainian scientists to phytohormonology, ...

Besides, the Ukrainian Botanical Initiative provides a contest for the best photos that appear on the cover of the Bulletin and its pages. The topic of the competition was fungy. Maria Zykova’s photo of Spinellus fusiger on Mycena sp. won and it is on the cover of the issue.
