A horrific crime at the Benedictine Sisters' Abbey in Jarosław, committed by a Ukrainian citizen. We are shaken by this evil.

According to the information available so far, a Catholic priest was killed and several other people were injured.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. We wish all those injured a speedy recovery.

The perpetrator of this evil must bear full responsibility in accordance with the law. We count on a swift and thorough investigation of all the circumstances.

It is painful that people are capable of such evil crimes. Justice must be done.

World leaders and diplomats at the 81st UNGA High-Level week have been consistently calling for Russia to end the war and accept a ceasefire.

Putin made his response clear: heavy ballistic strikes on Kyiv, Odesa, and other Ukrainian cities this night. There are already killed and injured people, and the attack continues.

Russia’s escalation of terror demonstrates that active diplomacy must come hand in hand with devastating pressure on Putin’s regime and unwavering support for the defense of Ukraine.

That is why our negotiations are focusing on steps to close our sky and protect our people from Russia’s ballistic terror.

During the C8 Summit, I held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of Poland @donaldtusk. Ukraine and Poland are strong neighbors, friends, and partners, and we have one common enemy. Today, above all, we discussed how important it is to maintain our unity and work together to stop this war. I thank Poland for its new aid package. This is an important step in supporting us, and we appreciate it.

We also addressed further development of the Carpathian Initiative and the opportunities it can create for all the countries in our Carpathian macro-region. Of course, we are ready to share our experience with Poland and are open to mutually beneficial cooperation. This is how we should continue building relations between our countries.

Today, for the first time, here in Ukraine, in our part of the Carpathians, we hold a Summit that brings together all the Carpathian states, the regions and communities of our countries. We are launching a new format – “C8,” the Carpathian Eight – bringing together us and our neighbors in Europe: Romania, Serbia, Poland, Slovakia, Czechia, Austria, Hungary, and, of course, the European Union as a whole.

This marks the start of a movement that should bring our countries even closer together and create another strong framework for cooperation at the EU level – security, energy, a significant expansion of logistics and cross-border economic cooperation, as well as substantial support for our communities.

For the third time in just one week, Russia attacked an area close to Ukraine’s border crossing with Poland in Yahodyn.

Moscow continues escalation. We must ensure that its cost for Russia rises every day. Every new act of Russian terror should leave Russia with fewer means to continue its aggression and Ukraine with more means to defend itself.

The responses Moscow needs to see in practice are stronger air defence for Ukraine, tougher sanctions, and greater pressure on Russia’s war machine.

Russia must learn that escalation does not produce hesitation. It produces consequences.

In August 2026, Ukraine continued efforts to return children deported or forcibly transferred by Russia and those trapped in occupied territories, while strengthening international pressure, accountability and reintegration.

103 children were returned this month, bringing the total to 2,525.

Key developments:

🔹 Lithuania allocated €600,000 to seven Ukrainian NGOs supporting children’s return, rehabilitation, families and war-crimes documentation.

🔹 New Zealand became the 51st member of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children.

🔹 Ukraine urged its diplomatic missions to systematically raise children’s return, expand the Coalition and strengthen support for the UN General Assembly resolution.

🔹 On 27 August, @BringKidsBackUA and the Office of the Prosecutor General brought together 50 representatives of state institutions, civil society and international partners to improve coordination in documenting crimes against Ukrainian children.

🔹 Ukraine notified four individuals of suspicion over the deportation of 53 children from occupied Donetsk and Makiivka. None has returned to Ukraine; 28 were reportedly placed with Russian families.

🔹 A Ukrainian child listed as missing since 2022 was identified as serving in the Russian military — the first documented case of its kind involving a child from Ukraine’s “Children of War” registry.

🔹 The EU was preparing sanctions against 27 Russian individuals and entities over alleged involvement in the deportation and indoctrination of Ukrainian children ahead of the Toronto conference.

🔹 International public figures met Ukrainian children affected by deportation, occupation and return, while the “Field of Memory” exhibition highlighted Russia’s killing, deportation and indoctrination of Ukrainian children.

Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian children remain under Russian control.

There can be no just and lasting peace without their return.

Putin seeks to drive migration to Europe—and the Black Sea blockade is part of his plan.

Russia's terror does not stop at Ukraine; it also threatens countries across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Vulnerable families in countries that depend on food imports will feel the consequences of Moscow’s actions most directly—through higher food prices and shortages that drive malnutrition and hunger.

Beyond this humanitarian toll, Moscow is pursuing a further goal: destabilizing Europe. Putin is betting that hunger and food shortages can cause an influx of migrants. That is precisely what he aims for, particularly ahead of elections in EU member states next year.

Putin knows that migration is one of the most sensitive and divisive issues in European election campaigns—especially after seeing how effectively Russian-linked networks exploited the recent Ceuta crisis.

He will use every available method to increase migration to Europe—the Black Sea blockade is only one of them. Belarus's Lukashenko regime remains another: Lithuania has recently discovered several new underground tunnels dug from Belarus, intended to smuggle migrants across the border.

Moscow believes its strategy will create tension, sow division, strengthen radical anti-European movements, and ultimately weaken Europe's support for Ukraine.

That is why supporting Ukraine’s agricultural exports and unblocking freedom of navigation in the Black Sea are of strategic and existential value for the European Union, as well as the wider international community.

We need urgent action to ensure uninterrupted commercial shipping from Ukrainian seaports, develop all possible alternative routes and mechanisms to transport goods through the EU, and provide maximum support for Ukrainian farmers in this difficult situation.

Another critical priority is to develop and jointly implement a Europe-wide strategy to counter Russia’s disinformation, interference, and manipulation campaigns. Ukraine stands ready to contribute its valuable expertise.
