I think what goes in the head of these types is immediate gratification. They have lost what it means to struggle and earn like everyone else…they do not see the magnitude of what 1MDB does to the country because they are privileged and has not felt the direct pain.
I have visited public hospitals ER and saw how people have to wait to get treatment. Some schools have no microscope when kids are to be taught science. It aches me to think what the money can do to help our schools and public healthcare. Because the pain for them is that they don’t get what they want, they are just too shallow.
Nobody talks about the ones who stayed. Or came back.
A few days ago I posted about Dr Swee Lay Thein’s story.
It went viral on Facebook, X, TikTok and LinkedIn.
And as always, the comments came.
Brain drain. She is not really Malaysian anymore. The usual.
Those conversations are real and of course they matter.
But it is also a bit like walking up to someone who is overweight and saying, “you need to lose weight.”
They already know. They don’t really need to be reminded.
There are a thousand reasons why things are the way they are and none of them are simple.
It is easy to look at things from one angle.
What nobody talks about are the ones who decided to stay.
Who looked at everything, the bureaucracy, the politics, the limitations and still said… this is where I want to build something.
I talk to these people all the time. Government servants, GLC professionals, corporate people, NGO workers, entrepreneurs.
They’re passionate. Not making noise about it.
Just showing up every day for this country despite how hard it sometimes feels.
What Malaysia is today was built by those people and also by those who have left.
I know this because I lived and worked in China for ten years. And I chose to come back.
Not because it was the easier path, but because I wanted to contribute something, however small, to this place.
And whenever I travel, people always tell me how much they admire Malaysia.
The food, the culture, the people, the way different communities still exist together.
It is not perfect. But it is ours.
This is not a national day message.
It is just something I have wanted to say for a while and I think many of you would feel the same way.
To everyone who decided to stay and build, quietly or loudly, stay on that path.
And those to who have left, you never know your calling.
Have a great day. Feel free to share. Follow for more.
For most of my life, Malaysia wasn't home 🇲🇾
I was born in London.
I grew up there.
But every time I came back here to visit family, I never wanted to go back.
Last year, I finally moved back for good.
Here's why - and what I'm building
A Thread 🧵 (Read till the end please)
Setiap orang adalah tidak bersalah hingga dibuktikan bersalah.
Modus operandi SPRM memaparkan notis terbuka seperti ini dilihat keterlaluan dan boleh menimbulkan persepsi negatif terhadap individu yang terlibat.

Going after James Chai just to get at Rafizi is insane.
All while Azam Baki's shares and MACC's involvement with corporate mafia is in question.
This is exactly why Azam Baki should be put on leave while investigations be conducted. All this is happening as Rafizi is pressuring Azam Baki. Stinks to high heavens.
We've all seen script like this in the past.
James Chai has more integrity and patriotism in his little finger than most Ministers have in their entire body.
Anyone is free to look up his public profile - he is a world-class intellect who has spent a lot of time on public service, when he could easily have made more money doing other stuff.
This dragging of his name and personal details in the media, as if he's some criminal evading the law (versus doing great work in Cambridge), is absolutely disgusting.
This is sad and unfair to be honest. Yg bagi bad reviews out of nowhere tu semuanya zalim.
Tak meletakkan yg hak di tempatnya.
Tak makan makanan kat kedai dia, menipu bagi bad reviews bulan2 puasa ni, nak tutup periuk nasi orang.
Allah tak tidur, malaikat mencatat.
Cukuplah.
@SyedSaddiq@mypolitiko Heard many times…PMX yang reluctant to make reform…this just proved that his claimed to make reform is not easy…not all in the gov agree with reform agenda…sigh…susah Malaysia nak maju if orang politik kekal mentaliti begini…
Twenty years ago we invaded Iraq. The war killed many innocent Iraqis and Americans. It destroyed the oldest Christian populations in the world. It cost over $1 trillion, and turned Iraq into a satellite of Iran. It was an unforced disaster, and I pray that we learn its lessons.
Hari tu kita bawa semua pemenang NZ trip masuk hutan and tengok bintang dalam gelap gelita. Best boleh tengok bintang terang depan mata sendiri 🥹 And kita bawa juga diaorang naik ferry untuk round tengok tasik biru kat Queenstown NZ
Macam ramai dah lupa victim sebenar 1MDB ni bukan ahli politik.
Rakyat Malaysia, dan generasi akan datang yang terpaksa inherit beban hutang akibat 1MDB.
