Thread of my recent first first author publication. Here, we explored how modularity affects robustness and introduction biases in computer simulations of gene regulatory networks (GRNs).

Looking for a PhD lab in ecology and evolution? I'm recruiting for Fall 2025. Applications to the University of Arizona EEB program are due Dec. 1. For more information visit https://t.co/4N9e2Nf833 and please share!
This semester I've been teaching "Economic Inequality and Growth" at @UCBerkeley. This is a thread with some of my favorite graphs.
First, the headline everyone's-seen-it graph: falling then rising income inequality in Anglophone countries.
Our latest preprint https://t.co/xdk1qOpiBW explains why fitness can be defined in so many ways, and which version(s) you should use for what. See threads in other places for explainers @geeklhem@pierrickbourrat
Our latest paper on background selection is out at @GenomeBiolEvol. https://t.co/dzxRX7Hd7j. Thread explainers at other 2 sites. Briefly: the 1-locus model of independent sites is dead when the deleterious mutation rate exceeds 1. @JosephMatheson2
Tarde pero seguro, great experience presenting my work at @mexpopgen. Wonderful organization and amazing talks. I always feel honored to being able to interact with such wonderful community.
First time I get the cover of a magazine and it's in @Nature! Had this idea to illustrate the diversity captured by the MX Biobank across Mexico and brilliant designer @mauguz33 brought it to life inspired by indigenous Huichol art from near my home town. https://t.co/OHeBg9ZRzu
Great experience at my first poster presentation at #SMBE2023. Thanks a lot to the organizers and all the amazing people I talked with! No puedo esperar a #SMBE2024 in México!
More #GBEpublished authors spotted at #SMBE2023 today! If you liked @JoannaMasel's talk on proteome selection, don't miss her GBE paper: Random Peptides Rich in Small and Disorder-Promoting Amino Acids Are Less Likely to Be Harmful https://t.co/ABERz2qfH4
Our extensively revised preprint on substitution load is up at https://t.co/ONFO3Buvos. Lots of new insights. @JosephMatheson2@MExpositoAlonso Summary at https://t.co/SVXVId4auU
New publication alert🚨: This paper is a result of a collaboration with John Wiens that started as my PhD rotation project.
Here we provide first phylogenetic support for the haplodiploidy hypothesis. (1/n)

Buena oportundida para estudiantes interesados en trabajar en un laboratorio extranjero para facilitar su transición y búsqueda de grupos de investigación (el laboratorio al que pertenezco incluido).

This work was possible thanks to the work of @c_espinosas and Luis Posadas Vidales. I feel grateful of having the opportunity of working with such great collaborators.

We also found that this introduction bias influences the evolutionary outcomes of evolutionary simulations of GRNs. Therefore, our work explores how developmental mechanisms can influence the direction of evolutionary outcomes in biological systems.
