Within the framework of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), a high-level panel on "Migration and Cities: Safe, Innovative and Sustainable Governance Framework" will take place on 20 May 2026.
The event will be jointly organized by the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the International Organization for Migration.
The session will explore the migration-urbanization nexus, focusing on innovative, safe, and sustainable governance frameworks that facilitate the integration of migrants and reinforce urban resilience. Discussions will also contribute to operationalizing the linkages between national migration policies and local urban realities, while fostering #global partnerships.

As part of preparations for #IMRF@migrationAZE convened the 1st joint meeting w/h Migrant Council, Advisory Board and Public Council of SMS, where we emphasized the value of whole-of-society approach in our work and discussed current issues & future collaboration on #migration.
At the briefing on the Secretary General’s biennial report on the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (#GCM), delivering a statement on behalf of the 41 #GCM Champion countries as its co-chair for 2026, #Azerbaijan stressed that the #GCM remained an essential framework for cooperation rooted in human rights and shared responsibility. It was reaffirmed that the #GCM Champion countries were committed to strengthen cooperation on saving lives, search and rescue, and addressing missing migrants, guided by the actionable recommendations provided. In the context of the upcoming second #IMRF, it was highlighted that the event would be an opportunity to reinforce trust in multilateralism and demonstrate that safe, orderly and regular migration is achievable.
Last week, we joined government entities, civil society, and international partners in multilateral consultations convened by @migrationAZE to advance the GCM in 🇦🇿. We reviewed national progress and discussed future priorities ahead of #IMRF2026 w/@UNmigration & @UNMigNetwork
