They said they were on their way from PH to Kano for Sallah, when they were stopped by vigilantes in Uromi. They found their hunting guns and dogs, therefore they accused them of being kidnappers, they beat them and left to a mob. They said they have licenses for the guns.

I am concerned by the harrowing display of mob injustice on 16 travelers from Northern Nigeria in Edo State.

This tragedy, which unfolded on March 28, 2025 in the Udune Efandion community of Uromi, is another sad reminder of the barbarity of jungle justice.

It is common knowledge that people from all parts of the country should be able to travel without facing any form of harassment or intimidation.

I urge the concerned authorities to launch a full-scale investigation into this sad incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

If I remember correctly, the late Prof. Pius Adesanmi popularized the saying, "May Nigeria not happen to you." This can mean many things to many people in many instances.

What reportedly happened to those innocent Kano hunters travelling through Edo is an example of Nigeria "happening" to some of its citizens. The depravity is too much.

How can you burn 16 people to death, go to bed and sleep? I don't think there is a crime anyone will commit to warrant such savagery in broad daylight.

I hope the authorities will do everything possible to identify and arrest those responsible and punish them according to the law.

May Allah forgive them and comfort their loved ones, amin.

This is not just a tragedy, it is a disgraceful stain on society, a chilling reminder of how quickly ignorance and unchecked vigilantism can spiral into mass murder.

The perpetrators of this atrocity, along with those who stood by and allowed it to happen, have blood on their hands and should face the full weight of the law. Though it’s doubtful that justice will ever truly be served in a system that permits such savagery to unfold.

To slaughter 24 human beings based on mere suspicion, without trial or investigation, is an act of cruelty that strips away any claim to morality or civilization.

The loss of these lives hunters, not criminals, who were simply passing through—is a gut-wrenching injustice that demands outrage. It’s a stark warning of the dangers of mob mentality and the lethal consequences of dehumanizing others based on regional or ethnic differences.

Those responsible, from the instigators to the enablers, are not just murderers; they are a blight on humanity itself. This act must not be brushed aside or forgotten, it should haunt us all as a call to dismantle the systems and mindsets that breed such unforgivable violence. Anything less than total condemnation is complicity in the face of evil.
