N-Power beneficiaries have visited Atiku Abubakar and thrown their weight behind him. He has pledged that if elected president in 2027, he will launch a $10 billion financing programme for start-ups and entrepreneurs, for them and for every Nigerian youth locked out of opportunity.

Tinubu will answer for the trillions harvested from subsidy removal and wasted while Nigerians paid the price. That money should have gone into relief, roads, schools, hospitals and farms. Instead, the people got hardship and the inner circle got the spoils.

You can purchase governors, clerics and lawmakers. You cannot purchase the Nigerian people. Across the country, voters are organising for 2027, not to negotiate, but to vote this government out.

An Appeal for the Resumption of Evaluation and Recognition of Genuine Degrees from Togo and Benin Republic

Dear Sir,

I respectfully appeal to you, as a prominent leader of the ADC and a major opposition voice in Nigeria, to intervene in the continued suspension of the evaluation and recognition of legitimate Nigerian graduates who obtained genuine degrees in Togo and the Benin Republic. We urge you to call on the Federal Government and relevant authorities to restore a fair, transparent, case-by-case process through which genuine certificates can be verified and recognised, while fraudulent qualifications are rejected.

In January 2024, the Federal Government suspended the evaluation and accreditation of degree certificates from the Benin Republic and Togo following an undercover investigation that exposed serious irregularities involving the alleged acquisition of a university degree in the Benin Republic in less than two months. The government subsequently commenced investigations involving relevant Nigerian authorities, the governments of Togo and the Benin Republic, the DSS, and the NYSC.

The concern was understandable: fraudulent certificates should never be tolerated. However, legitimate graduates should not suffer collectively because of the actions of individuals or fraudulent institutions.

Following petitions and investigations, the House of Representatives, through its Committee on Public Petitions, chaired by Hon. Bitrus Kwamoti Laori, considered the matter and called on the Federal Government to rescind the blanket approach. The House recommended a case-by-case verification system, allowing genuine certificates to be authenticated while fraudulent qualifications are rejected. The committee’s findings also cleared Togo of wrongdoing in relation to the allegations under investigation.

Despite this intervention by the National Assembly, many legitimate graduates remain stranded because the Federal Ministry of Education has not restored a proper mechanism for evaluating and recognising our certificates.

This has serious consequences. Graduates who genuinely obtained their degrees from legitimate institutions are being prevented from:

• Having their qualifications evaluated and recognised in Nigeria;
• Participating in the NYSC programme where eligible;
• Pursuing postgraduate education and further academic opportunities;
• Accessing employment and professional opportunities requiring verified recognition of their foreign qualifications.

We are not asking the government to recognise fraudulent certificates.

We are asking for the right to have our certificates individually and transparently verified.

If a certificate is fake, let it be rejected. If it is genuine, let the graduate receive the recognition they deserve.

It is unfair for thousands of legitimate Nigerian graduates to remain in limbo because of the misconduct of others. A blanket policy designed to combat certificate fraud should not permanently punish graduates whose qualifications can be independently verified.

Sir, I respectfully appeal to you and the ADC leadership to raise this matter with the Federal Government and relevant authorities, and to ensure that the recommendation of the House of Representatives is followed through to a practical resolution.

I also appeal to Hon. Bitrus Kwamoti Laori, Chairman of the House Committee on Public Petitions, and other concerned members of the National Assembly to continue pressing for implementation of the committee’s recommendations.

We support the fight against fake certificates. We simply ask that genuine graduates be given a fair opportunity to prove that their qualifications are genuine.

Verification, not collective punishment.
