Another drug bust - netting just under R400 000 in contraband - has unfolded in Phoenix this evening.

The SAPS Economic Infrastructure Task Team and SAPS Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit, assisted by Excellerate K9, executed a search warrant in Unit 2.

They arrested one suspect and seized Mandrax tablets worth almost R20 000.

An extensive search of the surrounding flats then turned up rock cocaine, Ecstasy tablets, cocaine powder, crushed Mandrax, and several rounds of ammunition.

Let’s be honest: the targeting of black professionals in state institutions nothing new. In-fact it's been a latter-day feature in parts of our state.

We all know somebody who has suffered serious reputational damage at the hands of “managers” who weaponised their authority, corrupted processes and targeted some naive black, often female, talent.

These people count on the slow pace of the justice system that is itself corruptible & buckling under the pressure of case load.

They understand that by the time the legal process concludes, the person they targeted will be so severely harmed and mentally exhausted that they are all too eager to move on with their lives.

And their accomplice is the media. One day after the dust has settled, we need to talk about how the media are so eager to believe the narrative of the “corrupt-unqualified-rent-seeking” black professional that they will paste their faces on tabloid front covers at the whim of an allegation.

Just the allegation is sufficient grounds to be convicted (if you’re black).

Don’t even get me started at how fellow black people, often simply fuelled by jealousy or self-hatred, are all too eager to join the bandwagon.

Word to the wise: keep your head low.

That’s how you survive the streets.
