We have two PhD student positions related to the icy moons, advertised now at Umeå University in Sweden:
Modeling Water Plumes on Icy Moons. Supervisor: Shahab Fatemi

Aurora on Jupiter's Moon Ganymede. Supervisor: Herbert Gunell

Ion trajectories and velocity distribution functions can look really funny near a comet. Anja Möslinger @IRF_Space together with @IRFgabby, @HansnKiruna, and people from @umeauniversity published a new paper about that in JGR Space Physics.

The bow shock of Mars can look so different on different spacecraft passages. One would like to know more about that. There's a new paper in @AandA_journal by Sara Nesbit-Östman @umeaspace@umeauniversity and others about that, using @MAVEN2Mars data. https://t.co/ZAMp8wPX0Y
On 8 September 2024, the first of four satellites that make up #ESACluster will reenter Earth’s atmosphere over the South Pacific Ocean Uninhabited Area.

That feeling of finally arriving at your destination... after ten long years travelling through space 😌
Ten years ago today, @ESA_Rosetta arrived at Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. To celebrate the occasion, we speak to seven scientists involved in the mission on:
☄️ Their memories of that time
☄️ How the intrepid explorer has transformed our knowledge of comets and the Solar System
☄️ How it has shaped how we develop new missions

What do those magnetosheath jets really look like? Computer simulations by Shahab Fatemi at @umeauniversity showed a surprising shape. This work was just published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.

There is a legendary ski race in my country that has been running for over a century. Since the first @vasaloppet race in 1922, participants have skied a distance equivalent to 1405 orbits around Earth. ⛷️🔄🌍
Congratulations to the nearly 16,000 participants who joined today the 100th edition of the world's largest cross-country ski race! 🇸🇪
I had hoped to be able to be there and feel the atmosphere of the 90km long-distance race from Sälen to Mora, but we stayed in space a bit longer so I could not join you. Instead, here is the Vasaloppet medal and number bib I took to the @Space_Station – it circled our planet 346 times with me during the #Muninn mission.

How big can a comet's bow shock get? We want to know, beause it affects space missions such as @CometIntercept , and also just because we want to know.
Niklas Edberg of @IRF_Space lead a team with @HansnKiruna , @charlottestalks and several others to answer that question.
What causes the unusual events when solar wind ions can reach all the way into the diamagnetic cavity of a comet?
@charlottestalks, Shahab Fatemi, and myself found that this could happen when the IMF is radial.
And we published it in @AandA_journal

🎶Here comes the sun 🌞
Happy winter solstice, light has begun to return to the Northern Hemisphere from 03:27 GMT/04:27 CET this morning!
This #Meteosat image was taken at 04:00 GMT/05:00 CET this morning (pic: @EUMETSAT)
@Darkellysio m'a posé une question très intéressante qui me vaut de faire un long thread (qui ne prend pas 6mois comme celui que j´ai promis pour expliquer qu´un champ magnétique ne protège pas des radiations) 1/18
🆕 We've narrowed down the shortlist for our next 'medium' #SpaceScience mission🛰️ to 3⃣ finalists.
1⃣ will ultimately be chosen as the newest addition to our fleet.

Tonight, our beloved #MarsExpress makes its 2⃣5⃣,0⃣0⃣0⃣th orbit of the Red Planet! 🔴🛰️
But what distance has it covered? Make a guess, or attempt a calculation! Answer revealed tomorrow.
At 00:55:07 CEST, #MarsExpress25000🥳

What are the forces that move charged particles around a comet? Anja Möslinger of @IRF_Space, @HansnKiruna, @IRFgabby, @charlottestalks and myself explored how the electric field can be estimated from ion observations by @ESA_Rosetta@Rosetta_RPC.
