The EU Commission has just identified Roblox as a "Very Large Online Platform" under the Digital Services Act. Roblox now has 4 months to comply with additional, stricter DSA obligations.

Roblox is the first gaming platform to reach this designation. They are expected to:
- Report on how its design, algorithms, and user-generated content could cause societal harm. Risks to assess include: the spread of illegal content, harm to minors, negative impact on users’ mental and physical health, threats to fundamental rights, and election interference. Roblox must take active steps to prevent such risks.
- Establish a publicly accessible ad database, detailing who paid for an advertisement, how it was targeted, and the specific demographics of the audience reached.
- Offer users an algorithmic feed option that does not rely on profiling or tracking personal data.
- Go through a comprehensive external audit at least once a year, and strictly enact the auditors' recommendations.
- Build an internal, independent compliance branch to regularly monitor DSA risks.
- Grant independently-approved researchers access (via national regulators) to non-public data, such as exposure logs or recommendation metrics, for the sole purpose of studying systemic risks such as harm to minors.
