I’ll never get over the lack of attention track and field gets. Alison dos Santos breaks a record many thought would stand for 10+ years. And if it was broken no one thought he would be the guy to do it. This is an all time great performance. Rai, Warholm and dos Santos have been one of the best rivalries in sports over the last 5 years.
Se Yong explains why previous SocialFi apps fell short, arguing that adding social features only works when the core product is something people already genuinely want to use
Coindesk: "We've seen other consumer crypto apps try to gain traction, try to gain a retail or broader consumer audience, but they have ultimately failed. Apps like Farcaster and Zora have struggled. Why do you think apps like that have not succeeded in the crypto industry?"
Se Yong: "I think success is measured in a lot of different ways. In some areas, those apps are very successful in doing certain things."
"I think maybe where they fell short was longevity and bringing in social finance as a category into the rest of the world. But there's obviously a lot of lessons to be taken from people in the past and the way they did things and things they didn't do as well."
"I like to think that social finance itself has been a category that's not seen a lot of traction because it's been centered around behaviors that people aren't innately interested in."
"So you need to be able to offer an experience that is on its own first class. It is so good, whether it's crypto, whether it's not, whether it's this new thing, this old thing, it is actually a fundamental experience that is very desired and one that has meaningful traction before you can actually put the social around it."
"It needs to be something that can stand on its own."
"I think where a lot of apps in the past have fell short is they just thought that you can slap social onto something that people weren't really interested in, and then it would cause more traction."
"When in reality, it actually is something that can either turbocharge the efforts or really diminish it significantly."
She absolutely didn’t. Femke ran her own race, Newnham decided to strike early, forgetting Femke can run a TALLLL 400m. Femke was unbothered and pressed the gas when she planned to. She ain’t running another poor race again (800m memories), promise
Burkina Faso’s next generation of footballers is going to be a problem, NFF should better sit up, I’d love to see what the bukinabaes put out at u17 level.
As a non boxer I love boxing but I can’t stand what this streamer generation is turning it into.
Boxing is not the ultimate combat methodology, it is a gentlemen’s contest. Simple rules and limited weapons, if you fall down I’ll let you recover, stand up, and we’ll start again.
It’s a sign of nobility to be able to fight within a limited rule set and that is what should be emphasized, not that boxers are somehow tougher or more dangerous then mma fighters.
The same way an mma fighter would get skewered by a fencer and a fencer would get dropped from 200 yards by a marksman, these are different contests but these young dudes are convinced that being a boxer makes them a badass.
Was mistaken about the final, but another tough game against Burkina Faso. I think we are 0-5 in our last 5 games against them at u20 level, would be interesting to see if we can finally break our duck and get a win. Stopping tapsoba and zongo will be key
