Album Review for Spiral Staircases by Larry June, Curren$y & The Alchemist
A project I feel like we’ve been waiting for. Not only did we get the Spitta and Larry collab, but we got Alchemist doing the production. This project is very short, sweet and to the point. You don’t get anything overly complex or anything lacking in effort as well.
Larry and Spitta are both able to rap off of each other very well. Most of the time when they are rapping it feels like two separate songs on the same exact beat. They have a different cadence and tone but the overall message is the same, the high lifestyle rap that allows them to be great always comes through. Larry has always been one to crush production from Alchemist. They literally don’t have a singular bad song together. Spitta and Alchemist haven’t had a full tape together in a while so it’s refreshing to hear him over this type of production.
The production itself has so many layered instruments that you’re having to just kick back and really hear every single part of the beat and how both Larry and Spitta find the pockets for their flows. Overall this is a great album with high replay value, and more importantly it is a classic project. It’s near perfect and is something we’re gonna be hearing all year.
