The real issue is with the contracts that come with phones.
You buy an iPhone for £80 a month of which the biggest chunk is the cost of the phone.
Then you get a mid contract rise for the whole amount - including the phone - which the supplier bought at the start of the contract.
If you’re going to allow mid contract rises surely it should be on the cost of data & calls usage only not on the cost of the device as well.
I’ve mentioned this before - but EPR will be a tax on consumers.
Its premise is that instead of people buying things and putting the packaging in their green bin for collection - the producer / manufacturer/ importer will have to pay it and will pass that cost on through higher prices.
So if it’s placing the burden of the cost of recycling onto suppliers I’m sure the government will reduce council tax given the cost of disposal of the packaging has been paid for already.
Yes the US where the economy since 2019 has grown by 15% compared to 6% in the UK.
What you fail to understand is that where wealth is concentrated amongst fewer people is not the same thing as wealth deprivation elsewhere.
If someone’s wealth Increases through growing their business then it creates new wealth for others too through creating jobs, higher pay, , buying more supplies. and paying more taxes
You fail to understand that wealth hasn’t been taken from other people - it’s been created.
See Thomas Sewell for details.
Agree the impact is disproportionate in Ireland versus the UK but I fundamentally believe the only way to grow the economy is to give entrepreneurs and businesses the tools and incentives to invest and grow their businesses. Every pound in the economy flows from that.
As a country we seem to regard success and wealth as something to be despised instead of something to be inspired by.
I’d go one step further Lawrence- I’d lower Corp tax to below irelands level.
Look at the impact there - encourages investment, brings higher paid jobs creates other tax revenue (more income tax, Ni, VAT etc).
The only way you can grow an economy is to minimise the burdens and costs on business.
What are you dribbling on about “arrogant appraisals”.
It is fact that the highest earners pay the most. Yet you people want them to pay ever more.
When is enough? What should they be paying in your view?
It all boils down to people like you being envious of wealth and success instead of aspiring to it and celebrating it like they do in the US.
Which partly explains why their economy massively outgrows ours.
Yes it is given the top 1% pay 28% of all income tax and the top 10% pay 60%.
You should be thanking them for contributing so much not demonising them.
They’re also the most mobile so can take their earnings and wealth elsewhere.
If they did that how would you make up the shortfall?

you better not be strutting around topless pretending to be Freddie Mercury in front of some pensioners round the back where the bins are when I get home!!!!
me :
I’ve done some work on EPR. Will be massively inflationary.
Every item you buy online will be subject to it unless you can prove the packaging isn’t single use.
One of my clients - an £18m a year online business expects a bill of between £150k-£250k per year.
Guess who is paying that? And it ain’t the company.

Reminder from @CeeMacBee
“An EU Reset Dynamic Alignment on Agriculture will mean the UK will have to introduce 13,000 new regulations & 12,000 new directives on Food/ Agriculture just imposed since the UK left the EU. Further the UK doesn’t actually export that much Food to the EU these days but still have to impose all these costs on our Farmers!” https://t.co/BgzUD6XPyW
@yolanda65@GriftReport Well that’s going to change later this year when Eli Lilly release retatrutide- mounjaro 2.0 basically - which as well as superior weight loss also preserves muscle mass.
Available already from many peptide and steroid sites. It’s good stuff and a game changer.
Corruption isn’t bald middle age businessmen getting on private jets with briefcases of cash..
It’s charities.. it’s government grants.. it’s migrants helping other migrants cheat our systems.. it’s money laundering fronts and councils run by foreigners for their own interests..
Domestic corruption by foreigners is hidden and defended by wokesters, institutions and media for ideological reasons.
Pretty much anything that “helps the poor” requires a deep audit.
