Fabrizio Romano 🗣️ Chelsea have unexpectedly opened talks with Brighton and Danny Welbeck’s representatives over a potential summer move.

The 35-year-old former Manchester United striker has continued to perform well in the Premier League, and Chelsea are considering adding an experienced forward to their squad.

Xabi Alonso has reportedly discussed the possibility with Chelsea’s owners and directors, with Welbeck viewed as an ideal experienced backup option.

The interest is serious, and Welbeck is believed to be keen on the move after being made aware that Alonso had mentioned his name internally.

A potential deal could also have consequences for Chelsea’s other strikers. Liam Delap is no longer considered untouchable, and the club could allow him to leave if they receive a suitable offer, although the player still wants to fight for his place.

Emmanuel Emegha, who only joined Chelsea this summer, could also be allowed to leave if a good proposal arrives.

There could therefore be movement involving Delap and Emegha in the coming weeks, while Chelsea continue to consider Welbeck as a concrete option.

João Pedro, however, remains a crucial player for Chelsea and is not expected to leave.
