@Mets@_David_Peterson Mets fans hating on the guy with a 52% ground ball rate the day after their infielders committed 6 errors in one game is the most "New York Sports Fan" thing I can imagine.

@Brilliam314@TagYourIt_18@fuzzyfromyt Yes those two are easily the best 2 Catchers in the AL through the first half. Dingler is not particularly well known, though I think over the next couple of years if he continues playing the way he is that will change.
@kroghma7 That could play into. I personally think batter vs pitcher statistics are next to meaningless unless there are 30+ AB and even then I'm hesitant to weigh them heavily.
Volpe does do a lot better against LHP so maybe they were just looking at Volpe splits as opposed to Mize.
@Brilliam314@miserableseafan@fuzzyfromyt Raleigh was a "one hit wonder." I don't see people talking about him at all this year. Not even to talk about how bad he is doing compared to last year. He does not have star power like you seem to think he does.
I'm not being contrarian. The most popular players making the All Star Game is what is best for the sport. Does it always work out perfectly in practice? Of course not. But popular vote is better than some stat based selection.
Even with a stat based selection there would be disagreements on which stats should carry more weight.
@f_vasile7@_JoeTiger@fuzzyfromyt To appeal to the most diehard of baseball fans, I agree. But the sport grows by appealing to the casual fan and that is done by including the most popular players whether they are the best at their position or not.
