Even as we are without electricity, we are analyzing power. We have lived experience and deepened understanding of the ways racism impacts who is affected by unnatural disasters, and the systemic response.
We are protecting the personal stories of our community while also asking those in our PISAB network to contribute what they can... We have folks still without power, some who will be houseless for weeks to months, and others still displaced.
TONIGHT: Listen to PISAB's Dr. Kimberley Richards in conversation about using the work of healing to recognize, acknowledge and tell the truth about systemic racism and its consequences.
“Breaking bread w/ Rev. C.T Vivian gave a whole new meaning to getting full on some good ole soul food. His wealth of knowledge contributed immensely to the Institute’s analysis & we are, who we are because of him!” Tiphanie Eugene, Admin Dir. #undoingracism#CivilRights
“The world has lost two powerhouse civil rights activists, Rev. C.T. Vivian and Rep. John Lewis. I’ve never had the opportunity to meet Rep. Lewis, but I’ve always admired his tenacity, braveness, and “good trouble” when fighting against racial injustice.” - Tiphanie Eugene
We have lost a giant. “Every generation leaves behind a legacy. What that legacy will be is determined by the people of that generation. What legacy do you want to leave behind?” - John Lewis
John Lewis was the youngest and last surviving member of the Big Six civil rights activists, a group led by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Lewis led some 600 protesters in the Bloody Sunday march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama. https://t.co/PABvcpq4k4
“What our workshop does is help us look at how we have all been socialized, conditioned and programmed in a race-based society”..."Some people are going to get it quicker than others,” says Richards. https://t.co/P1b9v7j8fp
"...lives lost do not represent individual incidents in which “bad cops” did the wrong thing; they are the result of an intentionally inhumane system... A system that breeds white people to internalize & enact white supremacy..."
