#sapsHQ [2 884 FOREIGN NATIONALS AMONGST 15 384 ARRESTED DURING NATIONWIDE SHANELA II OPERATIONS, 101 UNLICENSED FIREARMS AND 620 DANGEROUS WEAPONS SEIZED THIS WEEK]
This week, the #SAPS arrested 15 384 suspects for various offences during nationwide SHANELA II operations conducted between 22 and 28 June 2026.
Amongst those arrested are 2884 foreign nationals of different nationalities. These individuals were arrested in different parts of the country for contravening the Immigration Act.
Ahead of planned national protests against #IllegalImmigration set to take place this week, the Acting National Commissioner, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane has reaffirmed the SAPS’ commitment to protect the constitutional right of citizens to protest peacefully while ensuring the safety and security of all South Africans.
The SAPS’ role is to maintain public order, protect lives and property, and act decisively against any criminality that threatens public safety.
Other key arrests this week include:
▶️ 1 717 wanted individuals traced and arrested for various serious and violent crimes;
▶️ 146 arrested for murder, majority of these suspects were arrested in KZN (33) followed by Gauteng (28);
▶️ 136 arrested for attempted murder;
▶️ 111 arrested for rape, 26 of these suspects were apprehended in the Free State;
▶️ 1143 arrested for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
▶️ 102 arrested for illegal possession of firearm
▶️ 1 543 arrested for possession of drugs, police in the Western Cape arrested 634 of these suspects;
▶️ 222 arrested for dealing in drugs, 50 of these suspects were apprehended in the Western Cape
Under recoveries and confiscations:
• 101 unlicensed firearms seized that include handguns, shotguns, and rifles. Majority of the handguns were recovered by police in KwaZulu-Natal (33) followed by Western Cape (21);
• 1 160 rounds of ammunition seized;
• 620 dangerous weapons recovered;
• Various types of drugs seized;
• 46 stolen or hijacked vehicles were also recovered during this period
Operational highlights / successes :
National: A 23-year-old South African woman was arrested on Friday, 26 June 2026, at the OR Tambo International Airport on charges related to drug trafficking. The suspect was reportedly en route to Tokyo, Japan, when she was intercepted by police at the airport. So far, the suspect released 28 bullet-like objects suspected to contain cocaine; the value of the drugs is yet to be quantified.
Eastern Cape: Police in the Eastern Cape has praised the quality investigation by Detective Sergeant Nigel Wright which resulted in the Gqeberha High Court sentencing Siphelele Ntisana (30), also known as "Hupa", to five life terms and an additional 80 years’ imprisonment on multiple charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances and possession of unlicensed firearm.
He was found guilty of his role in a fatal shooting spree which claimed two lives and injured three victims in Kwadwesi during December 2024.
Free State: Cross provincial collaboration between the SAPS and private security companies resulted in the arrest of 16 suspects linked to a high-stakes double business robbery at the Goldfields Mall in Welkom. The arrests took place shortly after the suspects allegedly held up and ransacked two clothing chain stores on Wednesday, 24 June 2026.
South Africans can rest assured that law enforcement agencies are fully prepared to safeguard the country, protect lives and property, and maintain law and order.
