President of Postgrad Committee, Woolf/KGSA | PhD candidate | Bilbo’s mom | Here to answer questions & to show you Postgrad life @unikent & @unikentgradschool
FYI: now that I’m a civilian again, I’m over on my personal/academic account, @shellylorts. Be sure to give me a follow over there so that I can reciprocate. Now let’s see if I can finish up this PhD! 💪
Please help share the word on this important study: @megan_loughnane is recruiting those living with dementia + their informal carers in order to study communication. She’s also looking for SLT clinicians. Do get in touch w/ her if you fit the below criteria:
Just in case you missed this (where have you been?) Our talented colleague @MarshBen1 and his family making us all smile! Something from Hamilton next maybe? @UniKent@UniKentShelly@UniKentHistory

I’m now doing multiple daily updates via TikTok. Give me a follow (@shellythepostgrad) to stay in touch and keep current on PG life during our current situation. It’s way more entertaining than FB or Twitter!
Let’s self-isolate, but, like, together 😎. I’ve started a new channel as a way to keep in touch, do Q&As, and share tips for working from home/Postgrad life in this environment. Go subscribe and catch the premiere livestream on Sunday at 6pm. https://t.co/kEjQp9Uqqm
Physical distancing: Yes
Social distancing: No
Just because we’re not hanging out physically doesn’t mean we can’t be social.
From our loungewear, we remind you to keep in touch. I’m looking into virtual hangouts for PGs to ease this isolating period. Until then: Be safe.
After careful consideration and a poll of postgrads, we’ve made the decision to postpone tomorrow’s ‘Wine and Whine’ event until people are more comfortable socializing in large groups. In the meantime, take care of yourselves and each other. Community support is important now 💜
Someone said to me yesterday: ‘I always do the surveys. If they ask my opinion, I’m going to give it...and they might not like it’.
GOOD! That’s the way we’ll know how to make your experience better. Bring on that honesty. You may even get a MacBook for it 😎
You know that we have a postgrad cat @Unikent, right? A few years ago, he made me start a FB page for him. We crowdsource most of the pics, but all of the writing is strictly Gandalf’s. Give him a follow and he’ll bestow academic blessings upon you: https://t.co/cdoDK3Xn2W
@yvemarie I hear you! I started my PhD at 32. Sometimes even that can feel like a massive age difference from the MAs who are 21. But they do keep us young 😎 I know all the cool slang now 💃
Over the next couple of days, I’ll be filming quick videos answering questions about what it’s like to come to University. Help a sister out: what’s something you did/do want to know about the University experience?
I’ve sent out >30 applications for the postgrad jobs at Origins/Darwin catering! Due to demand, they’ve set a deadline: 19 March. If you’re a PG @unikent and want to work full-time hours between end of May and end of August, contact me or head into Origins for an application.
Update on Origins / Darwin summer jobs: I’ve had a massive response so far! If you’ve sent me your email address, please be patient as I work through everyone. (Due to GDPR, I’ll email everyone individually.) It’s not too late either; contact me for an application 😎
Postgrads @unikent: Origins and Darwin hospitality are looking for PGs to take on full-time hours over the summer (tier-4 students CAN do this; I’ll let you know how). Contact me if you’d like some big summer work. Imagine how many Bugs Bunny Burgers you can have!
Postgraduate Researchers are you having trouble finding a balance between teaching, research and life?
If yes, we have the perfect workshop for you!
Running tomorrow morning from 10:00 in the Graduate School Training Room, please feel free to come along!
