Solidarity from all of us @Bectu with film and TV workers in Finland @Temeliitto who are on strike today to win fair wages and improved working conditions ✊
Pleased to be at today's @DCMS Creative Industries Growth Summit. Great to hear @RhonddaBryant highlight the film & TV slowdown and impact on freelancers + discussion on skills retention. We'll be working with DCMS & @lisanandy on how govt & industry can better support workers.
Our hearts go out to everyone rebuilding following the devastating California fires.
Our thoughts are particularly with our media and entertainment colleagues, crew, and our sister unions, and all those in the industry who've been impacted.

Great to hear @bectu's data referred to in Welsh Government yesterday & recognition of the impact the lack of work for freelancers in film & TV has. Retaining skilled & experienced crew when the industry is quiet is a big problem that needs addressing. https://t.co/u5kpKkoLt1

This is such an important piece of work. There is still scepticism from some around the need for intimacy coordinators in the film & TV industry but fortunately, recognition of the wellbeing benefits to everyone on set is growing. It's a safeguarding issue.
The intimacy coordinator registry is now live.
The registry provides a list of intimacy coordinators working in the screen industry in the UK and Ireland who have requisite experience, training and skillsets.
The past few days have illustrated how important it is that those working in the sector have a voice in tackling bullying and harassment - please respond to the consultation to ensure the standards reflect your experiences. (2/2)

And the stories of life in film and TV just keep coming. What @bectu freelance members need is action, from Broadcasters, Production companies and from Government 👇
Brutal hours, tyrants and chest pains: a freelance producer on the reality of British TV https://t.co/LDlcK0Ygvb
Thought-provoking session. Interesting to think about the way work is found/secured in the industry and whether methods and forums used feel "authentic". Even more challenging for neurodiverse individuals who may find pitching their skills to strangers over the phone hard.
📽 Loneliness at work: ‘Why it matters in film and TV’ webinar, Wednesday 23rd October, 12.30pm.
Social connections are vital for mental health, yet our research shows loneliness is the biggest factor impacting mental wellbeing in the film and TV industry—surpassing money worries and work-life balance.

This is why freelancers don't raise issues because the risk of effectively being blacklisted is all too real. Freelancers deserve the same right as employees to have their legitimate concerns heard without fear of detrimental treatment. https://t.co/UbOr5lTDOv
Too often the creative industries allow a dynamic where those in power can abuse their status.
Broadcasters must deal swiftly and effectively with unacceptable behaviour and walk the walk in stamping out racism.
