FEDERATION FACT CHECK: Great story. Completely false! The symbol we know today as the Starfleet delta actually predates Archer by nearly a century. Historians trace its lineage to the Friendship One deep-space probe, launched in 2067—long before the Federation existed.

It’s a playful nod to Starfleet’s longest-running urban legend: that when the Starfleet needed a new insignia, Admiral Jonathan Archer approved a delta-shaped emblem as a subtle tribute to himself—an arrowhead, befitting an archer, that also resembled the letter “A.”
