Led by distinguished experts like Dr. Geoffrey Grace Bakaira and Dr. Marion Kibuuka, the session bridged the gap between theory and practice—moving from module construction to real-world teaching strategies.
With a strong emphasis on Quality Assurance and collaborative group work, our faculty is now better equipped and inspired to deliver world-class education. We are ready to shape the next generation of graduates!
STUDENTS’ RESEARCH CONFERENCE CONCLUDES SUCCESSFULLY
The Global Institute of Research and Community Advancement (GIRCA) successfully concluded its 1st Online Students’ Research Conference on 21 April 2026 under the theme From Research to Mission: Solutions that Make a Difference.
The three-day event brought together students and faculty mentors from Adventist universities across Africa for research presentations, active listening and scholarly discussions. Over 600 delegates participated, with approximately 120 students presenting papers. Five Bugema University students were recognized as best presenters based on peer ratings, each receiving an award of USD 100.
The conference was preceded by a practical coaching session organized by the Bugema University Research Directorate, led by Dr. Baraka Manjale Ngussa and Dr. Joel Kannyana together with Dr. Jesca Nabulya, Pr. Isingoma Edward, Dr. Martin Lubowa, Dr. Clare Kyomuhendo and Mr. Amos Asiimwe as research mentors. The intensive training equipped students with essential skills in academic writing and presentation. Anzoa Mercy Aloysius, one of Bugema students who attended and presented commented, “Participating was truly a transformative experience that elevated my research perspective and scholarly engagement. The conference fostered rigorous intellectual exchange, refined my analytical and presentation skills, and reinforced my commitment to advancing evidence-based, impactful solutions to the pressing global and community health challenges.” We thank God for the commitment demonstrated by students, mentors and the university administration in making this event a success.
Looking ahead, GIRCA is preparing for the 2nd Annual Student Research Conference in 2027, alongside a one-day symposium scheduled for later in 2026 to further strengthen research capacity. The Bugema University Research Directorate invites students and faculty mentors to join the BU Research club, a collaborative platform aimed at addressing critical contemporary issues through research and publication.
We are proud to announce that our students secured 2nd position among the top 5 finalists at the Build AI Hackathon, held on 25th April at the National ICT Innovation Hub. #BugemaUniversity

Bugema University Engages in Strategic Planning for Upcoming BIOS Institute
Bugema University is in partnership with Jewish Response Uganda and has taken a significant step in advancing agroecology and sustainable development through its engagement in the formation of the Bloomfield Institute for Organic Agroecology and Sustainability (BIOS)—an upcoming institute spearheaded by Jewish Response Uganda (JRU) and funded by the Harmony Foundation of Canada.
During a strategic engagement, the Vice Chancellor, Academic Registrar, and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs) met with Ms. Miriam Ademun of Inclusive Hearts Uganda and the JRU team to guide the development of the institute. Bugema University will serve as an affiliate academic partner, contributing to the institute’s academic and research foundation.
BIOS is envisioned as a university-anchored institute and learning platform advancing agroecology, climate-smart agriculture, applied research, and community-based learning systems. It will integrate academic programming, field-based training, and community engagement to promote sustainable food systems, resilient livelihoods, and environmental stewardship.
The strategic planning process, led by Ms. Miriam Ademun and Mr. Tumwa Silver from Inclusive Hearts Uganda as the lead consultant, will result in a comprehensive five-year roadmap to operationalize BIOS as a center of excellence in Uganda.
