I'm working on an episodic fantasy RPG titled Intercalary.
It's about the passage of time, taking place over 15 leap days/60 years/3 Acts to tell it's story.
See time as someone cursed to only live through leap days while ascending a tower to save the world and break a curse.
I'll do you one better. Breath of the Wild is a generic open world game, that had 0 need to be open world
I will further elaborate that Super Mario Odyssey is a generic open area game, that had no need to be open area
Even fucking Kirby has a generic open area game, that had no need to be open area
In the case of Odyssey, it is more of a tech demo of what the Switch 1 was "capable" of. All you do is collect moons. It has none of the fun that the 2D platformers have. It's go from A to B, with no rhyme or reason
Zelda works as a linear narrative, what was the point of changing it to open world? Needless changes for the sake of needless changes
Kirby is just Kirby, but why is he 3D now? 2D platformers are his thing, stick to that
Pisses me off bc it kinda gives you the illusion that if you lock yourself away from all the games and leave only the work surely youโll lock in on the work but no. Your brain just starts playing games with itself and itโs really loud
