I made a blog post about post-quantum cryptography, specifically on how "Harvest now, decrypt later" is a real threat, and what it means for IRC and UnrealIRCd. https://t.co/aqw0qQUw4T #IRC#PQC
@afpromania If you change only those items, your configuration should be OK. Still, we do recommend to check https://t.co/FdLQFeKR21 afterwards. Like, you may want "Services", and we very much encourage you to get a valid TLS cert from Let's Encrypt (or similar), as mentioned there.
UnrealIRCd 6.2.3-rc2 is available for testing. Release notes are available on https://t.co/Yq0ZPUKqct. Found any issues? Please report on https://t.co/ICdQWKFJYL. #IRC
Downloads are on https://t.co/NGDcJP6bwB. To upgrade to this RC on *NIX you can use: ./unrealircd upgrade --rc
@afpromania UnrealIRCd has an insane amount of options you could possibly change/set. However, we do care very much about "good defaults" (as that's what 99% of users will use). If you use our example.conf then only a few changes are necessary. We even marked them with "CHANGE THIS".
NEW STATS: #IRC server software in use on the Internet (based on 4991 publicly accessible servers):
#UnrealIRCd 37%, #InspIRCd 22%, ngircd 9%, Hybrid 7%, Ergo 7% (+2% compared to last year). See details at https://t.co/xhbaP7VZ81
Spam waves on IRC at the end of the year again. We have done our part in shielding the #IRC community from the first wave on Dec 24/25. Unfortunately no longer working on Dec 26. Using UnrealIRCd? Consider using CBL which is still highly effective: https://t.co/MFKKZ0GAyl
See the "UnrealIRCd 6.2.2 released & wrapping up the year" post at the forums https://t.co/HhEXsyAdV7 for more info. #IRC
As always, you can download UnrealIRCd from https://t.co/NGDcJP6Jm9 and on *NIX you can run ./unrealircd upgrade
UnrealIRCd 6.2.2 is out! Fixes a few minor issues. If running 6.2.1 then no reason to upgrade. But if you are still running 6.0.x/6.1.x then we highly recommend to upgrade to 6.2.x in December. The 6.2.x series have proven to be stable and are a leap forward in terms of security.
UnrealIRCd 6.2.1 is out! Main focus was on performance improvements, but also has new features like webhooks, UTF8ONLY, IRCv3 draft/extended-isupport, support multiple certificate/keys, etc. #IRC

UnrealIRCd 6.2.1-rc2 is now available for testing. If you can, please help test this release so 6.2.1 stable release will be...stable. #IRC

UnrealIRCd 6.2.1-rc1 is available for testing. Main focus was on performance improvements but also various small new features were added, like an option to set UTF8ONLY. See https://t.co/qTf1S9fZyS for more information. #IRC
The beta's for 6.2.0 didn't receive as much testing as I would have liked. If you are cautious or if you depend on 3rd party modules (some may not be updated yet for 6.2) then feel free to wait for version 6.2.1.

UnrealIRCd 6.2.0 is out! π Channel flood protection turned on by default, UTF8 Text Analysis & Spamfilter enhancements, new best practices regarding SSL/TLS, PQC enhancements. All to make chatting on #IRC more secure and with less spam.

For example, you could start with using Strict Transport Security to automatically redirect users from plaintext to TLS if they have a capable IRC client, such as mIRC, AdiIRC, IRCCloud, The Lounge, Colloquy, Palaver, and even bots like BitBot and Limnoria.
Starting with UnrealIRCd 6.2.0-beta3 we now print a "best practices"-advice to close user plaintext ports (such as port 6667). See https://t.co/9TzJc0zQOS on how to move your users to SSL/TLS step-by-step.
UnrealIRCd 6.2.0-beta3 is available for testing. This release has channel flood protection turned on by default, UTF8 Text Analysis, Spamfilter enhancements, new best practices, etc. See release notes: https://t.co/0G4YL9WK4Y. Please report issues at https://t.co/SnqasyPjKM #IRC
