Going back in time has helped me personally.

Right now I’m reading “the consolation of philosophy,” by Boethius. He’s a 5th century Christian sentenced to death and wrote this book coping with suffering, fortune, and true happiness. The intro and summary notes for each chapter in the back are almost as edifying as the work itself.
