Reports emerging from Doda about the killing of a civilian, Arif Hussain, who was allegedly stabbed and then shot dead by security forces , followed by an internet shutdown across the district, are deeply disturbing.
The administration must act swiftly to establish the facts and ensure accountability.
J&K must not be allowed to slide towards a situation where allegations of cow smuggling become a pretext for mob violence and the killing of Muslims.
Mehbooba Mufti Calls for Full-Scale Relief Response as Flash Floods Ravage Rajouri and Poonch
Srinagar, July 19: Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has voiced profound sorrow over the tragic loss of lives and extensive damage caused by the devastating flash floods that struck parts of Rajouri and Poonch following torrential rains.
In a statement issued today, Mehbooba Mufti said the unfolding humanitarian crisis has left families shattered, displaced thousands, and caused significant damage to homes, roads and other public infrastructure. She expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
She urged the administration to mount an all-out relief and rescue operation by deploying adequate manpower, specialised machinery and emergency resources in the worst-affected areas without delay.
“The scale of destruction demands an extraordinary response. Every available agency must work in close coordination to reach stranded families, evacuate those at risk and ensure that relief reaches every affected household,” she said.
Mehbooba Mufti stressed that rescue efforts must be complemented with immediate humanitarian assistance, including temporary shelter, food, drinking water, medical aid and other essential supplies for displaced families. She also called for urgent restoration of road connectivity, electricity and communication services to facilitate relief operations.
The PDP President further demanded that the government undertake a comprehensive assessment of the losses suffered by residents and announce a fair compensation and rehabilitation package for the families of the deceased, the injured and those whose homes, businesses and agricultural lands have been damaged.
Expressing solidarity with the affected people, Mehbooba Mufti said Jammu and Kashmir has repeatedly witnessed the devastating impact of natural disasters and emphasised that the government’s response must be swift, compassionate and commensurate with the gravity of the situation.
She also appreciated the efforts of rescue personnel, local volunteers and residents assisting those in distress, expressing hope that the ongoing operations would help prevent further loss of life and alleviate the suffering of the affected families.
Flash floods across the Pir Panjal region especially in Rajouri and Surankote have caused widespread devastation. The loss of lives , public infrastructure and private property is deeply alarming. This is a stark reminder of the price we pay for playing with the environment , indiscriminate deforestation, senseless mining and encroachment of riverbeds. The government must ensure immediate relief, rescue and rehabilitation for all those affected.
The distressing scenes unfolding at Jantar Mantar, where Sonam Wangchuk is risking his life to safeguard the future of our Gen Z evoke memories of the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters to liberate India from colonial rule. The British may have left but the colonial mindset seems to endure. How else can one explain the indifference of a democratically elected government that remains so callous that it refuses to engage with the youth at Jantar Mantar the very generation that will shape India’s future?
After careful deliberation PDP has decided to join the Jantar Mantar protest only if the restoration of Article 370 & release of political prisoners are at the heart of the agenda.
Participating in a protest that is confined solely to statehood would amount to putting the last nail in the coffin of our larger constitutional struggle for Article 370 thus legitimising BJP’s illegal August 5, 2019 actions. Our fight is for constitutional rights not one time symbolic gestures.
Happy Birthday, @IltijaMufti_ Ji. Your courage, resilience, and steadfast determination continue to inspire many. Through every challenge, you have stood firm with dignity, conviction and grace. May Allah bless you with good health, endless strength, happiness and success always.
The odious smear campaign against Iran & concerted efforts to malign it must be dismantled.
Echoes of Karbala - Iran beyond the shadows of war - A poignant piece by @MehboobaMufti brings to light how Iran isn’t what it’s projected to be by an imperialistic superpower & genocidal Israel.
Echoes of Karbala, Iran beyond the shadows of war
The Iran that exists beyond stereotypes and western media headlines is a land of faith, resilience, culture, and quiet human dignity.

It is disturbing to see a democratically elected JKCA being undermined without due process, with its President, Javid Khitab, and local clubs allegedly targeted and removed because of their Kashmiri identity," she said.
The PDP chief appealed to the BCCI to "stop this interference" and ensure that cricket is not turned into a "Jammu vs Kashmir issue."

This article, written by H.E @MehboobaMufti, President of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, explores Iran beyond the dominant narratives of war and geopolitical tensions. It highlights the role of the country's history, culture, and the legacy of Ashura in shaping Iranian identity, resilience, and civilizational continuity.

The funeral is barely over and the US has already started bombing Iran. Even twenty million mourners weeping in the streets for their beloved leader did not deter these criminals. Just a few days ago, I stood before the image of 14-month-old Shaheeda Zahra Mohammadi with a pacifier in her mouth, and it broke my heart to see her tiny coffin beside her grandfather’s. Our hearts go out to Iran. 🇮🇷 #iran #ayatollahkhameini #kashmir
Very disturbing developments taking place in JKCA The JKCA must remain above politics, corruption, and regional bias. Expected better under our own BCCI President, @MithunManhas, but it’s disturbing to see a democratically elected JKCA being undermined without due process, with its President, Javid Khitab, and local clubs allegedly targeted and removed because of their Kashmiri identity.
@BCCI must intervene to stop this interference and ensure cricket is not turned into a Jammu vs Kashmir issue. Let cricket, not identity, decide who represents India. Requesting @BCCI and @JayShah to intervene.

#WATCH Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir: PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, along with other party leaders and workers, paid tribute to the martyrs of July 13, 1931.
She said, "Today is July 13, and on this day, 22 Kashmiris sacrificed their lives outside the Central Jail in Srinagar... I regret that at that time, a movement against the British was underway across the entire country... Our people who were martyred in 1931 for the sake of people's rule are our heroes..."
#WATCH: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti accused the BJP of politicising the legacy of the 1931 martyrs by portraying it as a Hindu-Muslim and regional issue. Condemning restrictions around the Martyrs' Graveyard at Naqshband Sahib and claiming she had been placed under house arrest, she said the sacrifices of those killed in 1931 awakened the people of Kashmir and laid the foundation for democratic rule, adding that their place in the region's history could never be erased.
@pdp@MehboobaMufti
We have been placed under house arrest on the eve of Martyrs Day for reasons best know to JK Police. This is the normalcy they claim to have established in Kashmir? Make no mistake the local government too is hand in glove using police in Sidhra to demolish homes & place opponents in detention when convenient.
PDP President @MehboobaMufti paid tributes to the July 13, 1931 martyrs, saying their sacrifice remains an important part of Kashmir's history. She accused the BJP of politicising their legacy and criticized the restrictions imposed on political leaders and workers during the commemorations.
