I think often of something Tom Cox said: “I like reading and being surrounded by books, because I have a deep-seated suspicion that lining a house with books wards off evil in some deeply important way.”
Before you diagnose a personality disorder, please, for the love of God, at least assess for ADHD and give treating it a fair shot.
(Also, not for nothing, but if an adult has ADHD that was never previously diagnosed or treated, chances are good they also have CPTSD.)
@ask_aubry Also: if you have the dvds, every episode is also a master class/tutorial in commentary from writers, directors, producers and sometimes actors as well.
Especially knowing the series well I love listening to how specific choices were made.
@ask_aubry I really enjoyed Leverage, and the reboot is delightfully honoring of the original. It stars enough of the original cast that I’m watching actors in their 40s and 50s, and their characters who are actually working through all the issues they ignored in the original series.
Last thought before attempting to go to bed: if Americans are willing to reelect Trump after everything he’s said in the past three months, there’s nothing Harris could’ve done.
Women should not have the right to vote. Men also should not have the right to vote.
Instead, strange women lying in ponds distributing swords should choose who gets to weild supreme executive power. You get to be president when a watery tart throws a sword at you. Much simpler.
Sometimes I think about how well my autistic & demi self meshed w/ the binary mindset, purity-culture & wysiwyg teachings I grew up with.
It made my early years internally peaceful.
Now I’m thinking about how I don’t have internal tools for when we’ve already named wrongness.
Israel's apartheid state is already illegal. Its yearlong siege on Gaza is illegal. Its oft-stated opinion that Lebanon is not a sovereign country and can be legally invaded is not shared by the international community. Slaughtering civilians and bombing hospitals are illegal.
This is basically a long way of saying:
Please stop using my people as props for your broken American evangelical theological agenda. Focus on fixing the deeply broken American Church before exporting your broken brand of Christianity and disrupting the Global South Church’s faithful work on the margins.
Instead of patronizingly presuming what we need, spend time listening and asking about what we really need. Because what we need is the Western Church’s resources to reverse the effects of centuries of colonization.
We don’t need more western missionaries; we need more safe water, food security, climate action, and trauma-informed justice systems.
@fourth_aale@suchnerve What makes you think you’ve unintentionally been an ah, and not in a situation like this thread covers — where you’re being misunderstood?
I mean, this attitude will result in a much darker view of the world, but if it was unintentional how could it have been avoided?
@QuartzWizard@umberghauri@suchnerve Really like the “never the result of one convo” bit:
I hadn’t put the two pieces together before, but a MH professional lectured me once about how many layers/barriers the human mind has to pass before S is in the table.
It’s nice to have that reminder in my back pocket.
@XianJaneway@nekrodvna Ah, but haven’t you heard? It’s over-regulation that is our enemy.
As if innovation (any intriguing game) hasn’t been tied to “arbitrary” limitations throughout history.
So live like this is all there is. Live like your neighbor only gets one shot, too. Because they might!
This, I guess, is the opposite of Pascals Wager. If there is a heaven, great. If not... well, why would you make this life a living hell for others?
Christians often fail to report the crime of abuse thinking they are protecting family or some part of the body of Christ. Family & church are God-ordained institutions worthy of our protection. But God does not protect those institutions when they are enterprises full of evil.
@sacwriter Love hearing •Core Self• as the/a name for this anchored acceptance.
I just finished 10 days of tarot reading at our local fair, and (in many more words😜) this is how I described the Queen of Cups whenever she appeared upright.
@GarySweeten2@Jubilee4CHANGE Speaking for myself, no.
It’s closer to visceral certainty I’m unsafe. I both did it to myself & can’t undo it.
Sometimes I’m also convinced must have ruined someone else’s life. Somehow. And therefore deserve/caused the “rejection.”
My primary feeling is painful confusion.
Our public behavior simply doesn’t match up with what we claim to believe.
For this, I lament and deeply hope we confront this within ourselves. For it only leads to sorrow and harm while claiming to take a stand for God.
Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy.
