It has been my privilege to correspond with some tremendous people. I am hoping to continue to do so at @unto-the-hills.bsky.social Thank you Chris Twells
Written by John Twells 1923-2006 as virtually autobiographical, although told in the third person (Sellers).A few incidents have been embellished and certain characters renamed or amalgamated. Lifelong friends photoed, stories told. Imphal 1944 seen from within a Gurkha Battalion
Indian (and other Allied) soldiers escorting the Japanese surrender party in Singapore, 12 Sep 45.
It was Indians of the Indian Army that among others smashed the Japanese imperialists and ultimately won independence for India.
This week is an important one - when Fourteenth Army turned back the Japanese invasion of India at the Battle of Imphal, with Kohima to follow next week.
You also won’t believe the state of Japanese leadership 🤦♂️
Not a Bailey bridge but fascinating nevertheless. Every bullet & tin of bully heading into Manipur by land from 1942 crossed this bridge at Nichugard, the entrance outside Dimapur to the Naga Hills. Along this artery flowed the entire blood supply of the 14th Army fighting the Japanese in India in 1944 and then in Burma in 1945.
How many of you knew that the Kingdom of Nepal gifted battalions of its own army to the Indian Army to help with the crisis against Japan? Many paid the ultimate sacrifice. The Shere Regiment in particular fought with distinction at #Kohima .
Not long now until we get started - Series 1 begins on Monday 3rd February.
Here is a teaser where Rob describes Japanese leadership ... errr ... arrangements ... at the Battle of Imphal.

The role of the local Naga population was crucial in the victory of the allied forces in the historic Battle of Kohima.
Here Mr. Alan Gemmell, Member of Parliament, highlights the battle ahead of Remembrance Day in the British Parliament.
Thank You @alangemmell. We still remember your visit with fond memories. Wishing you a successful tenure as a Member of Parliament. Best Wishes always.
Catriona is a good friend, and as the daughter of Ursula Graham Bower has the most amazing stories to tell of Naga resistance to the Japanese, V Force and much more. This is not to be missed!
@KhalSir Sorry for the delay in my reply
Yes my father John Twells was born in Derby and returned to run Raymond’s News Agency with his partner Klaus Jacobi,
They were later by Neil Hallam whose Rams football reports will be very well known by older Rams fans
