Does anyone else think it's time to charge men who have sex with trafficked women with statutory rape?
If a 15 yr old can't consent (and they can't), how on earth can someone consent when to refuse would be to endanger their life?
@DAaronovitch If you look at a map, it is clear that Manchester is in the Midlands and not the North (where, for example, one finds Carlisle and Newcastle).
If you’re a socialist still in the Labour Party, then ask yourself why the Labour Party occasionally do left wing policies?
It’s because of the Greens.
If you want to make Labour do left wing things, help get Greens elected. It’s the only way.
A vast comms operation is underway to justify increased UK military spending: journalists, spooks, former military figures and foreign politicians. We didn’t vote for them and they aren’t accountable to us.
What you aren’t seeing is any organic popular support.
@JohnRentoul The media bubble folk think they have a "gotcha" moment. But the election question is not that relevant to real people. It's actually quite boring.
When people say The Green Party are anti-business
Show them this speech Zack Polanski was invited to deliver at the British Chambers of Commerce
"Leaving the EU has given us a lost decade"
"Small businesses have seen red tape and trade barriers that have made operations untenable"
"Business owners have too much uncertainty to plan for the future"
"We have seen entrepreneurship stifled, innovation crushed and brakes put on this countries progress"
"Some people tell me that it feels like we are going backwards"
"Investment down, employment down, productivity down, GDP down, 8% lower than it would have been if we stayed in the EU"
He then makes the case for better business and rebuilding our relationship with the EU
"In the first 24 hours of Starmer resigning, there were 1,485 mentions of him. Only 30 had any reference to Gaza." (And most of those made no mention of genocide.)
Media Lens on how the media blacked out one of the biggest reasons Starmer was so hated: https://t.co/6BGyfPv7rB
@garrypickles@KarlTurnerMP@Keir_Starmer Things have changed dramatically. The only thing not to have changed is your level of anger. Which shows that your anger is down to media manipulation, not facts on the ground. You will be happier when you liberate yourself from the media that use you.
Some of the things political journalists take for granted are crazy, when you think about it.
One is that Shabana Mahmood, a former lawyer who has never really said much about the British economic model, should be Chancellor - because the Labour right want influence.
@KilliciS@ElectionMapsUK@BMGResearch Labour should stop feeling entitled to votes. Andy and the wider party needs to win supporters over. Clue: stop telling us we are antisemitic because we are against genocide.
The return on what Britain already spends on Defence is appalling. Worst procurement imaginable.
That’s before asking: was £70B for F-35s smart? £200B for Trident? Could we spend more effectively?
But the BBC never has that conversation. It’s a huge drag on an informed public.
