Steve Biko’s funeral procession on this day in 1977. The state initially barred the family from having the funeral service take place at Victoria Grounds stadium because they didn’t want people to come out in their numbers. Malusi Mpumlwana is said to have asked the security branch in King (Qonce) something to the effect of: Would you prefer your men be outnumbered by an angry community here in Ginsberg? And like that permission was granted.
