Two masterpieces premiered otd: Haydn's The Creation (1799) and Dvorak's cello concerto (1896). I've always felt that Haydn & Dvorak must be sitting in heaven together - so much in common! Folk-like simplicity, astonishing originality, life-affirming good-heartedness - and genius
@SarahR_Oceans @UOP_SEGG@UopEnvsci@portsmouthuni We're looking forward to the return of the #musictour which is a superb way to extend students learning and promote the university abroad. Here's a pic from a full house concert we had in Blanes, Spain which was also covered in the local media.
Wonderfully appropriate that first orchestral music to be played in the stunningly refurb @HallforCornwall is @BSOrchestra playing Arnold Bax’s #Tintagel, a work which incidentally we gave the world premiere in 1921.
Marvellous to be back in #Cornwall with the full orchestra 😍

Musical wisdom from Andres Segovia (b otd 1893):
The guitar is a small orchestra...Every string is a different colour, a different voice.
The piano is a monster that screams when you touch its teeth.
Lean your body forward.. the poetry of the music should resound in your heart.
#Pianist#composer Franz Liszt’s desk in his former home in Budapest. I was able to see it in the same room as his concert grand with bust of #Beethoven

Absolutely fabulous organisation. In 2014 I saw an ad on social media; I applied! I haven’t looked back and I’ve made brilliant friends, travelled across the UK and worked with a phenomenally talented bunch of folk! Amazing opportunities! #nycgb#thisischoir
