This crisis should be the nail in the coffin for our marketised university system.

It's shameful watching students & staff being put in danger for what appears to be nothing more than ensuring universities can keep receiving fees & rents.

Like our NHS, university should be free

Students should not have to pay for education in the first place, but to be paying to be treated like prisoners in halls they were pressured to move into so the uni can profit massively is unacceptable. This was bound to happen solidarity with @ManMetUni students

Mostly online teaching, limited access to resources, societies mostly online, no competitive sport, restricted study spaces, no freshers fair. We are still paying the full price for a much inferior experience #refundusnow #leedsstudentrentstrike

The mental health impact of isolation and these student lockdowns will be much worse for students then the virus itself yet the university is offering no support, clearly they only had money in mind when letting us move in to halls #studentlockdown #leedsstudentrentstrike

The massive cost of uni puts pressure on students to enjoy it, no wonder we trying to meet people and have a good time and aren’t listening to the government who have continually failed us or the uni who we see have put profits before students #refundusnow #leedsstudentrentstrike

Students were pressured to enrol and move into halls but are now being blamed for breaking the rules and spreading the virus. We should not be expected to sit in a room by ourselves after paying 9k+rent #refundusnow #studentlockdown #leedsstudentrentstrike

Just spoken to my son who is a student in Scotland. They are now not allowed to visit each other’s flats, banned from going to pubs & all tuition is online. So they’re getting in debt paying huge amounts of rent & fees to stay imprisoned in their rooms. This can’t be right

The university of Glasgow sent out this email to students this should be a minimum for every uni in the uk but I believe they should be doing more #leedsstudentrentstrike
