Yesterday, we empowered students at St. Mary's Cheptulel Girls Senior School in West Pokot on Child Protection & Safeguarding, SRHR, climate action & ending FGM & child marriage. We also promoted reporting child abuse through 116 & 1195, planted fruit trees and donated san. pads

In drought-affected counties, school attendance drops as families face hunger, water shortages, and loss of livelihoods.

Children miss lessons. Some never return. Approximately 1.9 million children of primary school age (6-13 years old) are at risk of dropping out, in addition to 1.13 million who are out of school across the country.

Some children spend hours walking long distances to fetch water. Others migrate with their families in search of pasture, disrupting their education and exposing them to heightened protection risks, including child labour, early marriage, and exploitation.

Drought is not just an environmental emergency. It is a child rights crisis affecting education, health, and protection all at once.

Children should not be forced to choose between survival and schooling. They should not pay the price for a climate crisis they did not create.

While the crisis deepens, @SaveChildren_KE remains on the frontlines. We invite partners to join hands with us to safeguard children’s education, protection, and hope.

Today, we engaged girls at Chesta Girls High School, West Pokot County, to commemorate the International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM under the theme: “Towards 2030: No End to FGM Without Sustained Commitment and Investment.”

Today we conducted a school visit to follow up on learner enrollment, children’s welfare and ongoing support needs.
The engagement with teachers and learners highlighted the importance of safe learning environments and collective action to ensure every child stays in school.
