The #ChildrenofBloodandBone trailer kicks off with Zélie meeting Amari, a runaway who turns out to be a princess, the daughter of King Saran. Amari has stolen a sacred scroll that holds the key to restoring magic in Orïsha. Zélie, her older brother Tzain, and Amari then team up on a mission to help the maji rediscover their powers.
On the orders of the king, they're hunted by Amari’s brother, Inan, the crown prince, who is torn between loyalty to his father and his growing realization that the kingdom’s cruelty is unjust.
"Show no mercy, show me you want to be king," King Saran urges Inan in the trailer.
"That is not the kind of king I want to be," he shoots back.
Another scene shows Inan and Zélie seemingly developing feelings for each other. "You have unraveled me," he tells her as they swim together in a grove.
The action-packed teaser also gives a sneak peek at some epic battle scenes, including Zélie rediscovering her magical ability to summon the spirits of the dead, which she unleashes on her enemies.”

“Absolutely, we were going to shoot there [Africa]. Then I wanted to give the cast a 360 world to play in. That meant building, as opposed to having a CG world. Costumes drawing inspiration from all over the continent. The action: no wires, no stunt doubles. It’s our cast doing the incredible fighting.”
#ChildrenofBloodandBone director and Co-writer Gina Prince-Bythewood on filming in various locations in Africa, prioritising practical sets, cultural inspiration, and actor-driven action.
“Despite this fantastical conceit of magic and fantasy, I wanted the audience to feel grounded like they were in the real world. And that starts with production design. It goes to costume, it goes to casting, it goes to action.”
