✅ India has surpassed Japan to become the world’s fourth-largest economy.
According to the IMF, India’s GDP currently stands at 4.3 trillion dollar. India’s GDP was 2.1 trillion dollar in 2015, since then, the country has more than doubled its economy. According to the report, the high rate of growth will see India’s GDP increasing to 5.5 trillion dollar in 2028 overtaking Germany to become the third-largest economy.
✅ Akbar Overview
Mansabdari System of Akbar
✅ Akbar introduced the Mansabdari system in his administration
✅ Under this system every officer was assigned a rank (Mansab)
✅ Lowest rank was 10 and the highest was 5000 for the nobles.
✅ Princes of royal blood received even higher ranks.
✅ The ranks were divided into two – Zat and Sawar.
🔸Zat means personal and it fixed the personal status of a person.
🔸 Sawar rank indicated the number of cavalrymen of a person who was required to maintain.
🔸 Every sawar had to maintain at least two horses.
✅ All appointments, promotions and dismissals were directly made by the emperor.

📍 Early Developments
✅ 1770 – Abolition of faujdar and amils institutions.
✅ 1774 – Warren Hastings restored faujdar system, involving zamindars in suppressing crime.
✅ 1775 – Faujdari thanas set up in major towns, supported by smaller police stations.
📍 Cornwallis Reforms (1791)
✅ Introduced regular police force, replacing zamindars’ police duties.
✅ Established thanedars (Indian officers) and Superintendent of Police (SP) at the district level.
📍 Further Reforms
✅ 1808 – Lord Mayo appointed SPs, assisted by spies (goyendas), but misuse led to local unrest.
✅ 1814 – Darogas & subordinates abolished, except in Bengal.
📍 Bentinck Reforms (1829-1835)
✅ Abolished the SP office; replaced by magistrate-led police.
✅ Presidency towns first to have separate collector & magistrate roles.
📍 Police Commission (1860) & Indian Police Act (1861)
✅ Established civil constabulary system.
✅ Introduced Inspector-General (province head), Deputy IG (range head), SP (district head).
✅ Uniform police ranks across India.
📍 1902 Reforms
✅ Police Commission recommended Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in provinces.
✅ Proposed a Central Intelligence Bureau (CIB) for national intelligence.
