“Person with health worries” suggests a hypochondriac or someone with health anxiety.
The people in this article are legitimately afraid of being killed by a disease that is spreading without mitigation that could easily kill them. Their “worries” are serious and valid.
“Bus riders with health worries” makes it sound like people are overly anxious.
It’s dismissive of people who are high risk and have good reason to be afraid of dying.
The article is better than the headline, but still: come on, @washingtonpost. Do better.
In 1959, Eugene Ionesco wrote the absurdist play Rhinoceros in which one by one, an entire town of people suddenly transform into rhinos. At first, people are horrified but as the contagion spreads, (almost) everyone comes to accept that turning into a rhinoceros is fine. 1/
Putin has just launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Peaceful Ukrainian cities are under strikes. This is a war of aggression. Ukraine will defend itself and will win. The world can and must stop Putin. The time to act is now.
The GOP not guilty votes open up a very uncertain future for the security of our Democratic Republic form of government. They have shown that even in the case of sedition and incitement of a coup, the GOP will defend party over country.
This is such a dangerous precedent.
Here is part 1 of the House Manager’s video Exhibit 1. It truly is enough, just watching this, to convict the ex-president. Part 2 to follow. https://t.co/gbS74cX5fd
No one should have an incentive to turn a bigger profit by locking more people up. I’m glad to see the Biden-Harris administration phasing out private prisons at the federal level. Now let’s get rid of for-profit immigration detention centers, too.
After taking the oath of office this afternoon, I got right to work taking action to:
- Control the pandemic
- Provide economic relief
- Tackle climate change
- Advance racial equity
Congratulations to @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris, and to everyone who’s helped turn the page and make history today! Now, we’ve got a new chance to build a country that works for everyone—and we’ve got to seize that opportunity.
There is no time to waste when it comes to tackling the crises we face. That's why today, I am heading to the Oval Office to get right to work delivering bold action and immediate relief for American families.
Peaceful protest is the right of every American but this attack on our Capitol will not be tolerated and those involved will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
The violence and destruction taking place at the US Capitol Must Stop and it Must Stop Now. Anyone involved must respect Law Enforcement officers and immediately leave the building.
My Aunt won’t be joining us for #Thanksgiving , she died of #COVID19 in April when trump said it would magically disappear. My nephew will be celebrating alone in his apartment because he has #COVID . Please #StayHome this year so we can all celebrate together in 2021.
