台湾で「ヒカルの碁」を広めた人物が、台湾のプロ囲碁界そのものを長年支えてきた企業家でもあったことをご存じでしょうか。

その人物が、中環集團董事長の翁明顯さんです。

翁さん自身もアマ六段の腕前を持つ囲碁愛好家。2000年には私財2億台湾元を投じて「財團法人台灣棋院文化基金會」を設立しました。

台灣棋院は、院生育成、プロ棋士制度、段位制度、国際棋戦への参加、天元戦・国手戦・碁聖戦などを長年にわたり支え、台湾で棋士が育ち、世界へ挑戦していくための基盤を築いてきました。

そして日本人にとって興味深いのが「ヒカルの碁」。

台湾では「棋靈王」というタイトルで知られていますが、2002年には翁さんが華視とともに台湾での放映権やVCD発行権を取得。プロ棋士を支援するだけでなく、子どもたちが囲碁に興味を持つ入口を広げることにも力を注いでいました。

台湾の囲碁が現在のように国際舞台で活躍するまでには、こうした長年にわたる民間からの支援と、囲碁を文化として育てようとした人々の努力があります。

そしてこの夏、「台灣棋院數位典藏網站」が正式に公開されました。

台灣棋院の歩みをはじめ、台湾囲碁界の貴重な歴史資料が数多く収録されています。

囲碁ファンだけでなく、台湾囲碁の歴史を知りたい方、研究者、そしてこれから囲碁を学ぶ方にも、ぜひ一度見ていただきたいサイトです。
