The Creek Monster Habitat is a public art installation created and promoted by university students to draw attention to the need to protect Waller Creek.

Meet this semester’s social media team! This semester Ren, Shilpi and Hanqi will be running the stream’s socials.

Ren and Shilpi are on Team Stuart and Hanqi is on Team Mary. Ren is a junior majoring in HDFS. Shilpi and Hanqi are both sophomores majoring in biology.

Currently, Team Energy’s Leaf Decomp Team is embracing the fall leaves!

Team members spent the last few weeks setting up tarps to measure leaf litter production along the riparian of Waller and Bear Creek and learned to measure leaf area index using a LiCOR LAI 2200C.

One way we collect data for our Habitat Scouts project is using soil profiling.

Our first stream member spotlight of the week is Maggie Simmons. Maggie is a junior HDFS major from Team Ruth.

One fun fact about Maggie is that she fostered dogs last year with a fellow mentor. In the future she hopes to become a pediatrician, and run a dog rescue on the side.

Today’s student spotlight is Rachel Nolte! Rachel is a senior biochemistry major from Houston, TX and a member of Team Stuart.

One fun fact is that Rachel’s dream is to attend medical school. Currently, Rachel is in the interview stage of the medical school application process.

Last year, our stream meeting was on Halloween, so everyone dressed up for class.

To keep things fun, this year members of our stream kept up the tradition virtually by sharing their costumes over Slack.
