This #MutualAppreciationMonday, we see into the mind of Frank Marenghi, with his oil painting "Jazz Tonight." With the painting, he envisions his dream band: Wayne Shorter, Bill Evans, Billie Holiday, and Yours Truly. Thank you for your passion, Mr. Marenghi.
Sess Lee Cannon, originally from Peoria, Illinois, owns Flourish Curls Salon in Arlington, Texas — a natural and curly hair specialty salon that generated $1.1 million in revenue in 2023, its first year crossing the million-dollar mark.
With no bachelor’s degree, Sess started doing hair from home and part-time at local salons after high school. She built her reputation through social media, especially among clients with curly and biracial hair textures. In 2016, she made the bold move from Peoria to Arlington, investing $50,000 of her own savings to open her brick-and-mortar salon in 2017.
Today, Flourish Curls has a team of 11 stylists. Sess now works just a few days a week while running a thriving business that has become a destination for quality natural hair care.
This success story proves you don’t always need a degree — sometimes skill, consistency, smart branding, and real hustle are enough to build something big. Big respect to Sess Lee Cannon for turning her passion into a seven-figure empire. 👏🏾
