The Center for the Study of Economics is a 501(c) 3 organization that educates and implements, where appropriate, an economically viable Land Value Tax policy.
There's a healthy number of nihilists in Ohio state government. Getting rid of the property tax begs the question: what's going to replace it? Catastrophe portends; we suggest exempting all structures from tax. Retain the tax on land values.
Ohio lawmakers send to DeWine four property tax bills in marathon Wednesday session - https://t.co/JVEpEW5wVp #LVT #Georgist
Real estate (property) taxes budgeted for 2025: $37.3 million. Sum of all major city taxes (real estate, earned income, real estate transfer, mercantile/BPT, local services, amusement, payroll prep, utility, and penalties/interest): about $88.98 million. So we are talking about barely 40% of city tax revenue.
The whole point of LVT, from a tax policy standpoint, is to reduce dependence on tax revenues that are inherently immobile. So, LVT has had minimal impact on Scranton's economy for at least 50 years. With the new assessment, Scranton should examine how a recalculated LVT would work for the city. Yet, the city has rejected all offers of research assistance.

Great illustration.
What sense does it make that the owner-occupied property's land gets taxed at more than double the others.
This is why a land value tax is often preferred to eliminate disparity

@BarboneGeo@jemillerbalt Actually that's missing the point. A plot of land next door to an identically sized plot of land, and zoned the same, should be valued the same. The owner occupied property is paying a premium, and the vacant lot dash obviously owned by an absentee - gets a break. #LVT#Georgist
A new report finds Baltimore's vacant land is undervalued by as much as $484 mil by state assessors.
Fuels the argument for a land value tax vs the way it's done now to create a more equitable tax system
@wesleybrad060@jemillerbalt Most State or local governments employ a property tax. This is a tax levied against the combined value of land and buildings (if any) located on a particular parcel. A land value tax is simply a property tax that is levied only against the value of land. https://t.co/KIQbvuI9Jx
